Zing! Master Skin Error-Issue

System tray Icons not showing

Monday, October 6, 2008 by KingLizard | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I just purchased the new master skin Zing! and when installed all my System tray icons disappear. The only way to make them

visible it to make the task bar double wide.

Can anyone let me know how to fix this error? I love the skin and paid $6 so it's really disappointing that I can't use it.

Any help is really appreciated.

You might want to leave a note on the skin's comments.

Also, post your WB sys info.  Maybe you are out of date.

I'm using Windowblinds 6.03 (build 45x86) and the task bar is located at the bottom of the screen.

Hi

Sorry for the issue.

Although I didn't encounter the problem some people mentioned but I will try to figure this out asap, btw, since I don't have this issue on my OS, may I ask you to help me test updated skin?  Thanks!

I purchased Object Desktop Ultimate Upgrade (from Standalone) last September so my year so it's been over 12 months. My windowblinds was included with that bundle and when I open Impulse it doesn't offer me any option to update my version of windowblinds.

When your purchase is over a year old are you not allowed to update the program?

Is there somewhere I can directly download the newest standalone program?

What a great community this is..I can't believe yall have responded to help me so quickly. I can't thank you enough.

You can use Impulse to either get a new uears worth of Object Desktop or purchse Windowblinds by itself. If you purchase Windowblinds it will be good until they release version 7 regardless of the time it takes. I still recommend OD Ultimate

Okay I just purchased the stand alone Windowblinds and still the Zing! skin is not showing my system tray icons unless I double the size of the task bar.

I just discovered that if I right click the task bar and tick the "desktop" toolbar the system tray icons blink on....maybe that will help track down the problem.

Yes, this is the only skin out of probably 15 that I've used on my system that produces this error.

Hmm, yeah that's a weird quirk. Sometimes [ on rare occasions mind you ] while the blind is applied i will hit apply changes again, and it will [ hopefully kick things back where they should be ] and this does the trick for me. Maybe a logout/reboot? I guess i'm not as profient in the technicalities of a blind but you get the idea. Anyways, hope you get that fixed!

Someone posted the following solution to the error in the Zing! download comment section and it worked beautifully for me:

A simple fix is to open the skin in SKS6 for the edit horizontal taskbars and edit the tray section for the text area to these settings...

[red]Top to 4 and [blue]Bottom to 4

being just that close it makes for the end of the lineup for icons to be lapped in such a manner for them to be wrapped into another area. Thus this setting allows just enough space to resolve the issue.

This is for the xp version yet to see it in Vista...

Hi

Thank you for this, I've updated the skin on my PC and will upload it soon for others.  And will also enlarge the start panel in Vista Version.

Thanks for the fix via SKS6  King Lizard being posted here also...

A complete update by JJ Ying is being worked out completely. Everyone that has made a purchase will be able to download the skin again with the updates to the skin. I believe he has covered all the fixes for the skin. So be patient and the skin will be working much better for both Vista and XP.

Yes, I've found, in the past, that 100% of the time it's a margin issue.

Here is a simple solution, for those that make skins or are working on your first.

First, find out how big your taskbar is. Example: 23 px high. The tray icons, most of the time, will be 16 px high.

If you set the "top" and "bottom" margins at, lets say, 5 & 5. Add those together + the icon height, you'll get 26. You're trying to fit a 16 px high icon into a 13 px high spot.

There's not enough room for the icons to fit, so they won't appear.

If you set the margins at 3 & 3. Now it adds up to 22. Now they'll fit. Hope this helps.

That's the big question. I'll never understand it either.

Some people may not say anything out of kindness. Some because they already know how to fix it. Some will just never say anything. Some will go weeks before they say anything and some will put up with it.

It's all things to consider....
