Artweaver : Photoshop Alternative
Sunday, September 14, 2008 by PoSmedley | Discussion: Skinning
'Free application Artweaver isn't just a Photoshop alternative like GIMP, but a fair clone of Photoshop itself.'
If you're looking for a free alternative to Photoshop, this may be it. 'The programs are so similar, in fact, that seasoned Photoshop users will find themselves wondering why a feature is suddenly missing from the menu.' A lot of folks are looking for a free 'replacement' for Photoshop. This app won't replace it, but it may be as close as you can get. There are also plug-ins you can download for Artweaver. Artweaver's feature set is robust; it includes layer management, image cloning, a history function, transparency, pen tablet support, and a host of the common filters in Photoshop. Artweaver is available as a full install or in a portable version. |

I think they need to update that. This version should have layer support.

About GIMP
Introduction to GIMP
GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.
GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.
GIMP is written and developed under X11 on UNIX platforms. But basically the same code also runs on MS Windows and Mac OS X.
