Wincustomize personal sites

Settings not working

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 by neophil78 | Discussion: WinCustomize Site Issues

Anyone from Stardock or Wincustomize webmaster could have a look to the fact that's it's impossible to update/reset images on personal site ? (neither through Wincustomize directly, neither through Impulse ==> "Upload has not initialized properly. Upload requires JavaScript and Flash Player 9 or later." (of course i already get the latest java version perfectly installed and working and same for Flash Player )

(Win XP SP3 + IE7 french)

These are kind off details which are really tiresome

Some something I want to lend about this issue;

JavaScript is not the same thing as Java. They are two completely different subsystems in a browser. Typically, browsers ship with their own javascript engine implementation. This is not something you can normally reinstall or uninstall without uninstalling/reinstalling the entire browser. Java is a VM (Virutal Machine) and is run by a browser through plugins.

I've verified that image upload (avatar, personal, desktop) for the forums, impulsedriven and joeuser are working for IE6 (excluding impulsedriven), IE7, Firefox 2.x, Firefox 3.x, Opera and Safari. I'm updating the message today which displays if the upload failed to initialize. It was failing to display the correct minimum version number. The minimum version of flash which you need installed is 9.0.28. If you dont have that version, I highly reccommend that you update. It seals up several nasty security holes.

Followup;

I uninstalled Flash completely from my system. When I visited the Account Images page, I was greeted with 'Upload has not initialized properly. Flash v9.0.28 or greater is required.' Which is the correct behavior. When I then installed flash, I was able to use the page properly.

Though, i uninstalled FlashPlayer (9.0.124 which was correctly installed) reboot, then re installed Flash Player V 9.0.124, which is the latest french version avaible :!!!! - and not 9.0.28 - reboot, launch to forums, go to "My account/images" didn't have any error message like "Upload has not initialized properly . Upload requires JavaScript and Flash Player 9 or later." (but i still got it with through Impulse ),   then upload my screenshot image, in a first time it seemed to be correctly uploaded - and i got a message it was - but when refreshing the page, it was gone ... Though, still in trouble ...

I'm sorry, I cannot reproduce that problem. Upload of desktop screenshot has succeeded with every test I have performed. Multiple machines, multiple browsers.

I can't update my desktop screenshot on my personal site either.  It says it is uploaded successfully, but the image did not change.  Running IE 7.  This has been going on since last week.

AH, see, we're mixing which sites we're talking about

The wincustomize personal sites (ex; codemonkey.wincustomize.com) are a little busted at the moment. That much is true. To update your account images, use the my account pages on the forums. https://forums.wincustomize.com/account/images That page is tested as working (as I replied earlier)

Wincustomize.com and the WC Personal Sites are in dire need of attention. Everyone knows this, and it's on our radar.

That's the way i tried firstly, and where in a first time it seemed to be correctly uploaded - and i got a message it was - but when refreshing the page, it was gone

Note: the personal icon & personal image don't have any trouble to be uploaded, it seem to be just on desktop screenshot

Flash v9.0.28 or greater is required

Though, it just can't work as latest Flash version (at least for France) is  9.0.124

Maybe you just have to downgrade the Version of Flash needed ...

Same issues here.  Tried through WC personal page AND the link Andrew listed above. Same issue. I cannot upload image, icon, OR desktop on either page.

Running FF3

124 > 28. That reads that 124 is greater than 28. Looks like someone needs to take some math courses

As stated, Upload of Avatar, Personal Image and Desktop Screenshot has been confirmed working correctly on multiple machines with IE6, IE7, Firefox 2.x, Firefox 3.x, Opera 9.5x and Safari. If those are not working for you, you will have to attempt to troubleshoot the problem locally, as it is going to be an issue with your client (web browser). I always reccommend CCleaner for a thorough cleaning of all temp files and cookies.

Not sure 124 > 28 because 28 may be 280 (which will not be surprising as USA gets always the most recent versions ...) and if it was why do i get a message that it's needed to get Flash 9.0.28 or higher. Looks like someone needs to take some logical courses

On XP SP3 machines as well ?

It seems i'm not the only one to get the trouble and i get this kind of problem only here (and with different PC's)

for a thorough cleaning of all temp files and cookies.

Already done and changes nothing to the trouble

Please see this post for more details on this issue. A very helpful user has identified a situation in which users are unable to upload. If for some reason this does not clear up the issues other are experiencing, please continue commenting there.

I insist, it' clearly a trouble of memorising the web page where should be stored the picture (i can give you the adress of where should be mine, and also a screenshot of this webpage  i took after uploading with the correct image on it, (url= http://web.stardock.net/images/accounts/X/X/XX/memberident/desktop.jpg?XXXXXXXXXXXXX )

Problem is the uploading is not stored correctly
