Inserting pics between text with new editor

where'd it go?

Thursday, September 4, 2008 by zakai1369 | Discussion: Forum Issues

Ok so I'm going to use the smallest pic I have to demonstrate this.

If I try to insert some text and then put a picture and then add more text and smilies it will not show the picture and cuts out the text that came between the pic and the smiley.

Seems it does happen in OP also not just replies.

What I actually put was :

Like this

But I put the following picture between "smiley."  and "Like this"

Oh and I'm using FF 3.0.1 and have had this happen on various posts.

On a sidenote I know I said this somewhere else but more likely you'll see it here.

  on it now returning us to the last read post after editing instead of the first page of a thread.

Ya something has changed and it will not except the codes as I used them before...

  ya something is wrong with how it handles the images - keeps deleteing stuff here even in an edit of the html

Strange. I have no problems getting the pics to show.  Just the problem I put above.

Looks like the way the style settings are embedded - still trying to figure a work around for them...

Figure I'll give this a bump so someone in the know might see it.

Btw another good thing with the new editor... being able to highlight then drag and drop text if you decide to change around something you typed.

Please dont add 'bump' replies in the Site Issues forum category. I review this forum many times a day. (And if I'm gone for a day, I review it when I get back)

Testing inserting an image:

I have no issues inserting an image in between text. I was even able to drag the image around the body of this reply. Firefox 3.0.1

Another test with some more text and anotherno issue seen

Moving ahead I will be asking for very specific steps to reproduce issues for reporting editor function issues. I'm finding that 99% of reported issues are just a matter of understanding how to use the editor. We've been using an outdated one for so long that people arent used to the new fancy.

zakai, please reply with extremely specific steps which detail how to reproduce the issues youre reporting.

Test image

I usually post my images from ImageShack.

Test2 Test3 test4 [/URL] " alt="" />

I use the editor>Insert/edit image and insert the URL. I've never had any problems before. With this, I tried all the available options to post and still nothing.

As in my other posting Andrew it was as I put it there on the post I just did at PO's thread.

Not posting images all in a line but as posting them after a line is when it would happen. Which seemed to be the style for the html in some way or another reading how the paragraph was coded. [maybe?] {begining and ending such}

So now posting and image or emo after a line is ok!{I hope here it is?}

It would be posting another [2nd image] as to when the problem happened. So as such this and other lines would be deleted back to a certain point. if I did anotther image here on the next line as such...

So editing post here now and no more problems as it was and this seems to be all working fine now.

Thank you and have a great week Sir!

Guys, you're missing the boat entirely. If I'm going to diagnose this problem here, I need specific steps. As an example;

1. I click this button
2. I put this url to this image in this box
3. I click this button
4. I type the following text
5. I hit enter
6. I hit this button
7. .... etc

Your example replies don't do anything to help me see the problem as it is happening. I need extremely specific steps.

  • I click the 'insert/edit image' icon
  • I enter the image shack URL of my image in the window that opens where it says 'Image URL' ( I paste it in from imageshack...I have tried pasting all the options---Hotlink1,2 etc)
  • I click insert
  • Window closes
  • All I see is a blank box
  • I click post reply
  • Image does not show

I am using FF3, most current build, not a beta. I haven't changed any cookie settings or privacy settings for anything, let alone WC.

It doesn't matter if I insert the image in the beginning, middle, or end of any text...image does not show.

There are some new things about FireFox I was unaware of until here just lately and I will not be using it here on this system again till the security problems are resolved. Plus PO I bet if you hit the HTML key after you have inserted those images - you will see why I will not be using it any more.

Do an HTML edit of what you are about to post and see what the URL's are and if it matches! It is not the site - but that browser I asure you.

Let me switch to a FF browser I have on another system here and show you what I mean.

This is IE7

Which url are you using? Paste the url here (plain text).

I had no problems inserting an image, it is VERY important that you use the DIRECT LINK TO IMAGE in order for the image to show (as demonstrated in my image above). If it has any php? junk in it (directing to the image page with other fields, ads, etc) it will NOT work. It has to be the plain image itself.
