changing nicks

Tuesday, September 2, 2008 by PuterDudeJim | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I have a question and I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. I have a dual site problem and was wondering, if I change my nickname, will that confuse things further? I want to go from PuterDudeJim to just PDJ. Kitty does it some, so I was just wondering if I can, without causing problems. I am afraid to do anything since , I worry that it might create more problems getting my dual sites fixed??

I would say very likely. Very.

I will ask Andrew tomorrow if he does not see this post before then.

There is no andrew today I am afraid. I'll send him an email to follow up with this question.

Unfortunately it probably will.  When you change your nickname it would only change for your profile, your posts and replies.  But it would not get changed for your Skins.  We have never had the chance to finish our tools to properly manage users skins when a nickname is changed so your skins would remain under the existing nickname.

Everything should still to continue to work, but all your existing skins would retain your old nickname and then any new skin uploaded would take on your new nickname.

For the benifit of Andrew and other memebers of development I would like to ask that they not be singled out so much. Andrew is a guru in the web team, but he is still part of a team. Members of the team are not under obligation to provide support on the forums as members, such as myself, of Support are. If you have troubles with forums you belive are techical in nature (meaning you think the forums are broken and not your computer or browser) please let support know. You can do that here or through [email protected].

The web dev and Impulse team come into the forums to particpate in the comunity of their own regard and respect for the comunity and it's feed back. Please do not bombard them with email and questions. That is what I am for.

I'm always happy to pass information on.

I changed my name a few years ago and like T-Man said my old skins retain my old name(Driller08). But my new name was simaler so it didn't really matter. I have been thinking about changing it again, but I'm afraid I'll get name already taken. Then I'll search and search and never find the member with that name. It's happended at other sites.

ditto. My old nic was Noah99.

The only downside is people trying to find your work under your old nic, especially through a search engine or something.

Thanx guys, and I didn't mean to cause a ruckus about this. I know I get impatient, but this dual site deal has been haunting me for several months now and I do get impatient. I am sorry.
