Help with question about IP and random icons

Sunday, August 31, 2008 by Lady Aarielle | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Hello,

I have a friend that wants to create an icon package from random icons he has collected from the internet.... they are all .ico files.

In other words is there a detailed tutorial that explains how to assign icons to their given tasks and then bundle them up into a package and have it display in IconPackager just like the packages we download here at WC? I found some tutorials but they were mostly about how to make your own icons.

I'm looking for a "how to" tutorial on creating an icon package from diverse icons and I'm also going to translate it into another language so it will be easier if a tutorial already exists in English.

Second question -- can he create this package with IP alone? I'm assuming Icon Developer is for creating and developing icons.... as its name implies and not for making packages.

All input would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

Regarding the Second Question....All you need is IP if all the files are.ico's...All you do is open IP...Create a new pack...Right click each icon and apply desired Icon...when finished, save as, then zip...

The package will have to be for personal use though since you can't upload/redistribute work that is not yours without permission from all the artists who created the icons. But I made my "custom" pack the same way.

Skinhit - Thanks... that was nice and simple, yay

Bebi - Thanks for the info but he wants it personal use only... I got him hooked on what I call dressing up your pc instead of wearing XP prison "blue"! LOL

Thanks again, guys.

XP prison "blue"!

Hehe, I've heard of 'the Fisher Price look'... but XP prison blue is a new one on me. Love it!

Yeah, Like Skinhit said.... go to the 'Icons & Cursors' tab at the top of IP and right click to change each icon in each category... or it can be done in 'Package Builder' at bottom left in that tab. Either way does the trick, then it's just 'Save As' and name it.

Starkers - Thanks for the tip... good to know there's more than one way.

Yep, I'm not a fan of that ugly XP look... so needless to say when I found WC many years ago I was like a kid in a candy store... so my pc always looks like it stepped out of PC "Vogue"! Thanks again.

You're more than welcome.

Me too... tho WC is much better than a candy store... nowhere near as fattening.
