SOMETHING WEIRD HAPPENED TO MY PC

Something weird happened to my pc. I'm currently running Vista Home Basic [wow] at least it's Vista lol. Anywoo, I only have a total of 140 gigs on my system yesterday [July 12] I had a total of 118 gigs. All of which included my software, games, pics, etc. Today when I booted up my system my pc stated I had a whooping 5.7 gigs left! I ran disk cleanup, cleared my cache, and all of the whatnots, which brought me a grand total of 18.7 gigs.
WHERE DID ALL OF MY MEMORY GO?

Aye, gotta be the backup. I deleted my backup folder and instantly gave me back 80 gigs worth.

Oh, most definitely -
The OP should run WinDirStat or SequoiaView in order to see if there's a massive file taking up space or a bunch of similarly named/extension files in the same directory or otherwise.
Wizard - You have to take into account that perhaps this was a clean install, or the OP opted for a clean install (Dell allows this, I think). Vista + Crapware = ~15GB. Vista by itself usually takes... ~3GB, last time I checked. The DVD has a bit more than 2GB of stuff on it, so extracted (from CABs), then entire thing may end up as 3-4GB. Take into account videos, games, and pictures, and you have a 20GB+ package.
Backup isn't enabled by default... no matter if you bought the comp from Dell or HP, Backup is NOT enabled by default. I don't even think it's supposed to ship with Home Basic. However, some of you are suggesting it, as you saw it was on for your system, so I could be wrong, but it's not, afaik.
On a side note, I run backup on my server running 3 different dedicated servers (5 in total), and it takes up no more than 25GB per backup, and I have it set that it keeps the 2 most recent backups. That's only 50GB there, so unless he has it set to make an entire ghost image of his HDD, I don't see how it's possible to shrink down to 5GB from 114.
As for System Restore, viruses do tend to hide there... I would think running a restore from an infected restore point would make the issue worse. But as a side note, the amount of space that System Restore takes up can be easily controlled. Same goes for the Recycle Bin.
