alpha channel help

Friday, July 11, 2008 by gmc2 | Discussion: Skinning

just wondering if someone may know a decent tutorial on how to make rounded images that have a gradient type alpha channel. my alpha channels come out with sharp edges (black and white). I have looked at some alpha channels that have gradient gray areas that seem to blend the image to reduce these sharp edges. how do I do this????

Try this one ... you'll get the general idea of technique. Then just play with the settings to get the look you want.

I haven't used PSP in many years .. version 5, I think ... but the principle should be the same. Probably a different way to get there, though.

I use PSP7 because I like how easy it is to use, but it gets an F when it comes to manipulating alpha channels. If you can use the PNG format, it's much easier to work with. If you want send me an example to look at, I'll see if I can come up with an answer for you.
