Day 5 of the smoke here in Norcal

By now maybe you have heard of the fires in California. Maybe you've even seen some pictures on the news. However you probably have not seen what exactly has been going on away from the fires.
The above shots are of the same spot. The top one was take awhile back early in the morning with the morning mist still present. The bottom is of today during mid-day.
This is our 5th day of the same smoke layer here in Nevada County.
So, wanna come visit, enjoy some beautiful cali sun and clean Northern California air?

Been there, done that back in 2003 here in southern CA. It was awful. Got sick from the smoke inhalation.

Yeah it's pretty bad here in Stockton. I hear Napa and Sonoma counties are burning. But the smoke has blotted out the sun for a week now.

My thoughts and prayers goes out to everyone who is affected by bush fires, I know what it is like... My eldest sister and her family were burnt out in the 1967 bush fires in Hobart Tasmania Australia.... Thankfully they got out alive but they did have to rebuild their home they lost very thing. 125 separate fire fronts burnt through some 2,642.7 square kilometres (653,025.4 acres) of land in Southern Tasmania within the space of five hours. Fires raged from near Hamilton, Tasmania and Bothwell, Tasmania to the D'Entrecasteaux Channel as well as Snug. There was extensive damage to agricultural property near the channel, the Derwent Valley and the Huon Valley. Fires also destroyed forest, public infrastructure and properties around Mount Wellington and many small towns along the Derwent estuary and east of Hobart.
Death toll and damage
The worst of the fires was the Hobart Fire, which encroached upon the city of Hobart. In total, the fires claimed 62 lives in a single day. 52 people died in the Hobart area. Property loss was also extensive with 1293 homes, and over 1700 other buildings destroyed. The fires destroyed 80 bridges, 4800 sections of power lines, 1500 motor vehicles and over 100 other structures. It was estimated that at least 62,000 livestock were destroyed. The total damage amounted to $45,000,000 in 1967 Australian dollar values.[2]

I feel your pain, I was living in San Bernardino a few years ago durning the Old Fire, good luck with everything, if you go outside during the smoke wear a dust mask, and you'll never get some of the ash off of your car, it's still on mine... lol...

Holy...someone actually in my part of the woods here? Unbelieveable. We were almost evacuated during the Old Fire (people a block or two away were, we got lucky with the Twin Creeks spreading ground acting as a buffer).

yeah... I remember... I worked in Fonatana at the time, so when the two fires came together life was tough for me, making it hard get home, hard to get to work. You were very lucky about the twin creeks spreading ground. Alot of people lost their homes over in your part in town. The worst part was opening the garage, getting into something you hadn't been into in a while, and finding ash all over, for months afterwards.

SKOriginals, I looked at the satillite image and I guess I see why Stocktons' so smokie now! The whole damn region is burning.
Where are you located? And how's it going where you are, what is this day 6 now?
As for Stockton, it's still all smoke and no sky.
The sun still hasn't come through as of 1500 today. There's been several 1st stage alerts from the AQMD as well.

I was in 29 Palms in '99 when Joshua Tree National Park was burning (among other places). Hope you're safe SK.

Yes it was, so they tell me, everyone that was affected by the fire in some way was helped and that was a good thing that a community just pulled together to help one another.

Yeah its the end of day 6 and it looked alot better today. Hopefully any new thunderstorms they say might be coming soon (like tonight and/or tomorrow) wont start more fires like the last one started these 
I'm in Grass Valley, thats about an hour up from Sac., none of the fires were threatening here but if you look at the sat. pic. you'll see I'm under that really 'whitish' section of smoke.
As a side note the cities around here completely banned all fireworks for the fourth, even the 'safe and sane' ones and the larger firework shows

I know exactly where you are SK, I go to Skip's Music store in Fulton lots. I also setup UCDavis MC in Prairie City.
All the smoke is funneling into the central valley and it's not moving. No threat from flames here either.

heh, thats not too far at all.
I just found out the full story on this.. the surrounding cities all followed the Gov. recommendation to ban fireworks, however Grass Valley has not and the fairgrounds will make a dicision next week on 'The Big Show'. GV's choice to not ban them has some people 'up in arms'.
btw, the smoke is back a little more then yesterday... guess the winds died down again
