Need some Antivirus Techie advice

Which one Do I Use???

Monday, March 10, 2008 by MetalHellssAngel | Discussion: Personal Computing

In my house for a long time we've all used Norton Antivirus however Now I'm hearing it may not be the best solution? So I'v heard of other antivirus programs but I'm not sure which is the way to go. Currently I have Mcaffe installed on our computers because we got it for free from comcast. But is there something better? Plus I'm kinda annoyed with Mcaffe as it keeps quarentining files that don't need to be and even though I'v restored them, with the next scan they get quarentined again. It get's old. So what do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance,
Angel

Leo the Lion

Whatever software you go for it's always worth running one of the FREE on-line scanners through your system about once a month.......both ESET NOD and Kaspersky have these facilities on their websites and they are a great 'double banker' to make sure you are clean.

In addition to an Anti-Virus and Firewall prog, it's also wise to have a couple of spyware hunters. Spybot and Adaware are FREE and they do a great job.

Yes, agree.  I do basically the same thing.  One addition, its a pain, but not as bad as reinstalling my OS:  I switch, temporally, to another antivirus and run it, do as recommended, and that turn by standard antivirus back on.

In my experience both the free versions of AVG and Avast are garbage.

They both missed a virus that Norton and Kaspersky caught. You get what you pay for...

As far as Norton being bloatware... Starting with the 2012 version, the program's footprint has been reduced significantly. I've never experienced a slowdown from it.

Also, since I've been using Norton, I've never been infected. Not once.

Same goes for Kaspersky.
