PNG with alpha transparency .....
(at least not the last time I tried it)

i m using
1 ulead gif animator to extract all frames and
2 then desktopx aniutil..c:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\Desktopx\Aniutil.exe to save them as a multiple image .png ....
if ne1 knows a much simpler ie only one step software .gif => multiple frame .png then let me know..

You can use Jasc's animation shop to split the frames. Free Here
Then export the frame(s) into Gimp to save it as a .png. Free Here
