Vista: what is it doing with my drives?

Yesterday I did a clean install of Vista. All has gone well with one exception. I have four hard drives and for some reason they are starting and stopping every few minutes. Why? What is Vista doing? How can I stop it?
Plus, when using some programs, there's a pause while the drives start up. All very annoying

Vista is coded to think you are stupid.
Takes 8 minutes for mine to finish chugging away for it to be truly booted.Lame.

A clean install of vista is very frustrating. The install doesn't take long, but it takes days to get everything adjusted so it functions as an O/S...

My migration to Vista was very difficult. I have found a lot of problems that was absent in Windows XP. More than I was in one step from refusing this OS and returning back to XP!
However I finally found the way how to compel it work for me:
1. This is a link to the web page with the necessary tweaks that you need to apply after Vista installing: WWW Link.
2. Then I have bought and installed TuneUp Utilities 2008 that I use together with Stardock Tweak Vista to adjust my PC: WWW Link.
3. And at last I have installed Vista SP1 RTM: WWW Link.
The results: Vista works very quickly and correctly now as well as all installed Strdock programs. And I already love this OS.

My computer still flashes often. I hate how vista keeps hard drive busy. I turned off superfetch, indexing, etc yet it still stays busy.

Eventually got it sorted. It is Vista trying to save power...
Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Hard disk > Turn hard disk off after > Setting: 20mins (changed that to 9999).
All is well once more
