Weekly Poll: Forum Updates
Pretty and useful, or worst thing ever posted to the intartubez?
Tuesday, February 19, 2008 by Zoomba | Discussion: WinCustomize News
Over the weekend we rolled out a pretty big upgrade to the infrastructure that powers our forums and articles system across the entire Stardock network. To go along with this we put out some layout and code fixes for the forums to hopefully make them easier to use/read and faster to load.
After ironing out the major kinks yesterday (speed issues, broken images, quote issues etc) we're starting down the road of restoring the list of temporarily lost features. So we feel we're in a good position at the moment to start getting your reaction to the changes, specifically the visual changes.
So this week's poll we'd like to hear whether you like or hate the changes. And please leave any comments you have on the changes on this thread. We're going to be taking all feedback into consideration for improvements as we continue to work on the site.

Like all changes, folks will just have to use the forums and try out everything. Once we find everything, and the little corrections take place, what's not to like.
I'm at a disadvantage, I don't go around to a lot of other forums, so therefore I don't have much to compare to, and for me, it's not the most important part of this site.
Sorry, don't mean to offened anyone.

The editing of edited post problem is still there.

In other words, the post for problems has problems itself.
EDIT: Go figure...that threads working now.

Po...
- Some features are temporarily disabled. See the initial post about the maintenance work for the full set. Honorifics are on there.
- The old "take me to the last post I read" bit was a hack and a source for problems previously. We're looking into how to better implement that feature.
- What do you mean "edits aren't working"? Errors? Does it take a while for the edit to appear?
- The separate box for the avatar was to improve readability of the forums, and give us more flexibility in formatting. It gives us room for moderator badges, and additional user information.
- No. No animated avatars. Ever. Period.
- We're looking into additional file formats for avatars (pngs?) For blending, would adding a border around the avatar help?
- The formatting update was only to the forums. Any changes to article views will come much later because it will require a big update to the main WinCustomize project.

When I click on edit, it opens the post for me to edit. When I click on save changes, it goes back to the first page of the thread and does not apply my edit.

Also..when I try to input an image...not ALL the time...when I click on the image icon, the screen jumps to the top of the page and the window that pops up to put in the image url will appear above the top an half hidden off the page.
Petty stuff, I know. Just letting you know.

Nice to know you are keeping up with all the comments.
I owe you and andrew (and whoever else is involved [but not all the Stardockians!]) a drink next time I'm up there.
