Microsoft bids $45 Billion for Yahoo

I saw this on the news earlier today.I wonder if Google are getting a little concerned that their current share of the lucrative internet search market is about to be challenged;if Microsoft's bid is accepted of course.

I can't see Yahoo and MS gettign in bed together successfully.  Clash of cultures.
I think MS is a company still looking for a growth market but I don't think it's search engine or advert servcie.  Stick to the OS market and the consoles MS.  They are yoru current strengths.

Why are they "competing" with Google at all?  Are they an advertising company like Google?  Is that really the path to better success?
