Alienware Dream Winners Announced
I want that PC....

Shortly after Thanksgiving this year, we announced the Create Your Alienware Dream contest. Talented animation artists from all over the US had a chance to show their stuff and compete for three really great prizes; a $3,000 Area-51 7500 Desktop PC, $1,000, and $500 cash. Outside of the GUI Champs, this is the single biggest contest (in terms of prize value) we've run.
Last week, the judges voted, and after contacting each of our winners, it's time to let everyone else in on who walked away with which prize.

Alien Core by t2wave This entry was t2wave's first attempt at making a Dream, which is pretty impressive. Using little touches like taking the "alien language" from a previous Alienware contest, this Dream's attention to detail especially caught the attention of our judges. |
Thank you to all of our participants, and to our judges (Island Dog, Fuzzy Logic, Snowman, WOM, Erk, Karma Girl, Snidely Whiplash, and the folks at Alienware), and most of all Alienware for the amazing prizes!
If you weren't able to compete in this Dream contest, remember that we have the 2008 GUI Champs coming this year, and I'll give you a hint... Dreams will be one of the competition categories!

Employees of Stardock, Dell, Alienware, Microsoft, their friends and immediate families are not eligible to enter.
I can understand why Stardock, Alienware,and possibly Microsoft employees would not be eligible but how was Dell involved in this contest? Also, why would the friends be excluded?
I am just curious, so it's not a big deal if this goes unanswerd.

It's a pretty standard line in most contest rules. It's to avoid giving conspiracy theorists further fuel to their "it's rigged" claims.

As for my previous post - I know when to admit i'm wrong. I may not have picked the winners that won, but oh well, it wasn't my decision to make. Life's just not fair. And again, I'm sorry to anyone that I may have offended and I hope nobody took it too personally.
This is actually my first time complaining about the results of a competition on a fourm (supprised?). I'm not usually one to complain about the results of any judged competition, but I just can't see the judges thought process, either by a fault of my own or by theirs, but that's not really important. The competition probably could have been a little better administrated, but oh well: what's done is done.
As for the next DreamScene contest,
I don't expect to let you winners win so easily, so expect some competition.

Well...my guess would be they chose one[s] that were usable, didn't have too much motion, had a suitable background colour, had well-textured heads, and in all honesty were pleasing....
There were quite a number of judges [not sure myself of the exact no... eg. from Alienware]...think double figures...

That entire post was wild conjecture, and false.
The ONLY issue with the contest was that the judging took place one week late. In fact, the rules NEVER said the results would be announced, just that the winners would be notified and the announcement was contingent upon them responding and confirming their elligibility. We were a week late on that, which was my fault.
But the "friends" rule was never rewritten. Not once. If you interpreted it differently, that's not my problem.
Customer status had nothing to do with it.
The dreams were judged on the stated criteria and rules for elligibility.
t2wave's status as a new Dream artist had nothing to do with his placement. I made comment of it in the announcement because *I* thought it was interesting.
