Seeking Questions for "Ask a Moderator"

Peering behind the curtain...

Friday, January 4, 2008 by Zoomba | Discussion: WinCustomize News

WinCustomize came into being almost 7 years ago now.  In that time, we've registered over 3 million users, processed tens of thousands of skin uploads, participated in countless forum threads, answered emails, PMs and more.  The life of a moderator is always a busy one!

And while we've always tried to be transparent in what we do here, sometimes our job may seem a bit mysterious or confusing.  Normally you could just fire off an email to one of us with a question, but sometimes you might hold back because it's not about a specific skin you uploaded, or may not be all that pressing an issue.

In the spirit of ZubaZ's Ask a Master article, I'm going to start a spin-off; Ask a Moderator.

I'm seeking questions from the community that you'd like to see the moderator team here at WinCustomize answer.  Do you wonder why they moderate the queues they do?  Do they have a favorite skinner?  Do they have an innie or an outtie?  You get the idea.

Post your questions below, and I'll pick out my favorites to ask the moderators.  Please, no questions about why your specific skin was moderated a certain way, or recieved some rating.

This is a serious question. I am asking, cause I often look at certain things, wallpapers in particular, and it might be in a style I just don't get (really abstract, for example) or just a style or theme I don't care for at all and have often wondered, how do you 'moderate' something that just doesn't agree with your artisitic tastes?

Also (can we ask more than one?)

When you start checking to see what's there to be moderated and you see the artists names...

Which ones excite you the most before you've even opened it?
Which artists (do/or have)'surprise(d)' you the most?
Which ones (or if you don't wanna name names- 'are there any that..') scare you the most?

Finally,

Sara Rue or Wendy Jo Sperber?

Perhaps moderators should't SEE artist names... Seems as if that might be prone to bias eh?

WHat do you guys say about that?

Just a suggestion.. from a friend.

I want to ask the mods a question...

Do you ever get tempted to 'accidentally' press the exile button when someone is being silly?

How badly sometimes do you wish you could just walk away.. like.. taking the blue pill (or whatever it was in Matrix  )

...... and you were never even here? ...be honest.. all of you probably thought it at some point

I have a few:
  1. What's teh best thing about being a moderator?
  2. What's the worst?
  3. Were you surprised when you were invited to become one?
  4. Is it what you expected it would be?
  5. What's the hardest thing you've had to do as a mod?

Is the job rewarding to you?
Is there any thing you miss about not being a Mod?
Does Zub really snore in his sleep?
What are the different levels of a Mod? and what is their different function?

I see Fuzzy logic and Zubaz submitting questions for the mods and since they are mods themselves, I assume this post is directed to the ones that moderate submissions. But wait a minute, doesn't Zubaz moderate Object Dock subs?

So, since I am probably not the only one that is confused, here are my questions...
How many levels of moderators are there?
Will each of the mods introduce themselves and give us an idea as to what their assigned duties are?
Are all of the mods volunteer or do some get compensated for their contribution?
What do each of them like and or dislike about the community?
If they could change something to better the community, what would it be?
If Zub had a spell checker, would he use it?
