Spyware distributors hit with €1m fine

Thursday, December 20, 2007 by Fuzzy Logic | Discussion: Personal Computing

Everyone, at one time or another, has to deal with spyware. Well, three Dutch companies, along with their two directors, have been fined €1,000,000 by Dutch telecom regulator OPTA for illegal distribution of spyware.

Some 450 million files were distributed to 22 million computers in both the Netherlands and worldwide. The infection led to over 7700 computers being hacked in less than 24 hours.

I bet they were able to pay the fine is cash. Shouldn't waste time with fining them, just do massive amounts of bodily hard to them. Better yet, bring back the stockades. Too bad I don't have an opinion on this.

Spammers annoy the heck out of me, but I can't put them in the same catagory as spyware distributors. To me there's a big jump to actually installing software without user permission, and another big jump when that software is intentionally obscure to uninstall and has the primary function of pumping in advertising, collecting personal information, and using machines to propagate itself to other machines.

As far as these scumbags go, well, use your imagination. I don't want to spew.

I say: take them to the woods, find a nice stump, nail their favorite appendage to said stump, hand them a dull rusty knife, then set the stump on fire.

note: make sure its not a troll stump, even trolls don't deserve that kind of treatment.
