Round Windows

Has anyone ever explored the idea of round windows, just for fun, as I can't see any practical reason.

round windows may be fun, but in reality they don't translate to well to a desktop environment. it's all good and different at the start, but when you look closer the flaws start to appear, jagged edges for one thing. people like their edges sleek and smooth.

Most apps are designed for parallelograms.
Displaying data for apps like that in a circle would reduce usability.
Monitors are also parallelograms, si if you used circles space would be wasted.
Smallish custom gadgets can be very effective in circles.
What did you have in mind?

Hmmm, my monitor is a rectangle...

Two words...... stretching and tiling. It's a no go, I've tried it.
(oh and scrollbars dont go round corners either......)

Round windows might be fun, but there'd be so much wasted space it's just not practical. You could have a few rounded corners though.

would look goofy with a non editable rectangular background in the middle eh? Plus the frames would be HUGE to compensate for the roundedness of the corners.
