My Vista is working excellent right now. I would be afraid to install the update especially since it seems like their hurrying up to put it out.

I would be careful of a RC as well. Unless you are very savvy with Vista, wait till RTM.

Well I suggest you retract all the bad stuff that you said about it, then... you should oughta know by now that rumours will ruin a reputation... that when mud is thrown, some will inevitably stick.

Thanks to some members of the press, Vista's reputation was pretty much sunk/tarnished before it was released... and being many believe everything they read in the paper, it was always going to be an uphill battle for MS to clean off the mud that stuck.

Thanks for the advice Starkers. I've said what I've said. I already had a bad reputation before Vista remember?

Actually there were and still are many of us that hoped or hope that Vista would or will break MS.

Just an opinion...

Um, Starkers, Vista had negative press about its release delays before it came out. The bad press is has earned by

A) being released before it was ready
coming in a ridiculous 8 artificially segmented versions
C) for being priced ludicrously given its lack of obvious end user benefits
D) etc. etc.

was well earned AFTER it was released.

And given how badly build the most recent internal SP1 screwed up beta tester systems worldwide just last month, I'm thinking it might NOT be a good idea to try this RC just yet.

And let's be clear, I LOVE what my system looks like and runs like with Vista...when it's working and running like it should.

So what! You're not alone there... still picking off little pieces of mud from the last lot of shenanigans I found myself in. Just as well, then, I gave up the grog and related mischief six or so years ago... otherwise my dry cleaning bill would be enormous.

Actually there were and still are many of us that hoped or hope that Vista would or will break MS.

I don't see that happening any time soon... hell is more likely to freeze over first, me thinks.

Um, Starkers, Vista had negative press about its release delays before it came out.

Yeah, I know... Microsoft didn't do itself any favours regarding Vista's release, nor with its pricing and segmented issues, either, but then there were some commentators and self-proclaimed experts who set about painting Vista with a much blacker name than it deserved.

Fortunately, having had a good experience with the Vista betas, I liked the OS well enough to dismiss all the anti-hype and make my own evaluation. I purchased Vista Ultimate when it was released and I'm quite happy with its performance... no major complaints so far.

And given how badly build the most recent internal SP1 screwed up beta tester systems worldwide just last month, I'm thinking it might NOT be a good idea to try this RC just yet.

From what I've been told (by a little dickie bird at MS Sydney), this release has been much refined since the earlier betas and is quite close to the final package. Is it perfect?? Probably not, given how many hardware/software configurations MS has to try cater for, but I'm hearing there are noticeable performance and stability improvements with this RC version due out next week...supposedly it'll hit the servers on Monday, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I mean, MS doesn't wanna be accused of releasing it into the wild too soon, so they might wait 'til Tuesday.

Download the SP1 RC1 last night. Installed it this morning and it does seem to br running much faster then before. However it is still a RC1 service pack and time will tell. Will continue to beat on it daily and see what breaks.

Yeah, I can see how talking about personal computing on a forum for personal computing would be pretty boring!

Next we might talk about (gasp!) 64 bit processing!

Gideon - the boring part is that people keeps repeating themselves, over and over again - in different threads.
We already know most peoples opinion on Vista - why bring it up again, whenever someone makes a post about Vista

So where was that?? It's not supposed to be released until the 10th, next Monday!

C'mon, Snowman, the tread was started as a community service for those with Vista and an interest in SP1... what's wrong with that???

Just my 2cents.

1) I have been ruuning vista for nearly three years, personally I could never go back to XP. My 3 computers running vista have been almost running flawlessly, even before the RTM release last year.
2) I also have been running SP1 since the first beta release in September of this year.
The only problems I have run in to have been with Stardock Software. DesktopX is not compatable with SP1. Even on the latest build this week.
3) For those that like to flame MS go buy a MAC.
