Collections....

What do you?

Tuesday, November 6, 2007 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Over time, people get all sorts of manic interests...that manifest themselves as 'collections'.

Snowman, for eg has 'every' skin ever made....for any proggy.....

My interests are diverse....so there's more than one thing I like to collect.

It gets a bit crowded when you have 16+ bicycles........I'm attempting to rationalize that.... so currently, including frames there are....er.... 21.

When I was five I got into Meccano ....so 48 years later I still have that No. 3 set ....plus the equivalent of beyond a '10'..... 7 or 8 boxes of the stuff.

Motor Racing Officiating....over 30 years..... I try to limit myself just to caps for the World Superbikes [they're particularly well embroidered....FIM badges, etc..... I end up with 4 or 5 others each year....so the F1 and Moto are passed on to other 'fans'.... but then there's service badges...pins....programs....posters....tabbards....and pieces of car/bike.....

When I was 10 it was Magnus the Robot Fighter [comic - Gold Key] .....I wish I'd kept them all back then.....they're worth money now....but I have 'most'.

When I was 5 - 6 I had all 72 [I think] Matchbox cars...as on the typical display case .... and I sure wish I'd kept those.... could just about retire now...

Anyway.....what monopolizes your collective juices?

Jafo rephrases that....

What do you collect?

My user name kinda explains what I collect. I've always had a fascination with Fairies , Dragons, Wizards and blown glass and Austrian crystal. Although I've stopped adding to the collection - I'm running out of space and energy to clean them.

I have a pretty good collection of comic books - all pre - 1970
I use to check the values every month on my 1st and 2nd edition of " Swamp Thing "
but its been a long time since I bothered. I wouldn't sell them anyway. I like looking through them to see the novelty and toy adverts.

I'm one of life's hoarders...... I tend not to throw anything away. So, I just collect everything.

I am partial to unusual watches though. When I first started collecting them in the late 70's there wasn't many unusual one's, but these days there are thousands, so it's become a pointless, expensive hobby. But I do have one of the very first Swatch watches to be sold in this country.

Recently I have been collecting unusual cell phones, anything weird or limited edition. It's fun.
Erk.

I collect belly button lint and toenail clipping from random strangers as I walk down the sidewalk singing do-wah-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-dum!
Should I seek medication?

Seriously..
When I was a kid, I collected beer cans. It was quite the fad back then. Later in life, I collected beer, but those dreams were quickly flushed away.
Now, I collect belly fat while my scalp collects real estate in the form of hair foreclosure....

I used to collect tiny or unusual salt & pepper shakers. Gave them to a friend when moving & dusting became to much. I get to see them occasionally Now I collect icons for Object Dock. I have done some cleaning and now have 3.21 GB 48,931 files

Good grief....!!!!

I was 'inspired' to pull it apart myself...see if I could get it going....and looks like I have.....

Checking online has similar around the 250 US mark...if you can find them.

I paid $100 AUS about 30 years ago.....

Jafo rushes off to give it a careful clean and polish....

What time is it? If you buy that watch its time to get your head examined.

That's it....'Lanco Quartz' LED watch ....blank black screen....until you press a button...then quite small red LEDs light up for around 2 seconds.

Great watch for night time...not so great during the day.

Thanks, guys for inspiring me to try it again.....silly jeweller was probably inserting the batteries [2] the wrong way round....they're in series [3 volt]...

I hadn't used/worn it for possibly more than a quarter of a century.....

I used to collect Beanie Babies, have a decent collection and some that I darn well know are rare. Otherwise, anime/manga volumes prolly don't count, right? Not much other collecting is done, mostly due to money and mostly due to allergies (when you collect things, you have to dust them, and when you're allergic to dust... something has to give).

Ah, so you've moved to Utah to set yourself up one of those polygamist type homesteads where you can read latter day teachings on how to manage very large families....and the essential polygamist's manual: 'How to Cope With Several Mother-in-Laws Without Weapons or Tranquilizers.'

I collect socks. I'm a lil bit OCD about my socks. I have about 84 pairs, i think. But I only keep them for a month. Did I say a lil OCD?

I used to collect coins. I still have a coin collection, I just stopped adding onto it. My prize? An 1889 Liberty Head silver dollar. My grand-father gave it to me before he died.

I have lots of comic books too. All the Spawns, the origional Tomb of Dracula series (there were only 7...circa 1975, a present from my brother), and almost all the Ghost Riders.

I also have an extensive collection of plastic Arby's cups (I'm a pack rat sometimes, too. Did I mention OCD?)
