WB6 Configuration Screen Has a Black Background

Saturday, October 13, 2007 by JerryB2 | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I've tried installing WB6 twice. Each time a configuration screen opens up. This screen has a black background and items only appear when they have the highlight making it difficult to setup/configure Window Blinds. Do you have any idea what's going on or what I can do to resolve this. Thanks.

If you can - Open the WindowBlinds Configuration screen and click on System information.  Copy/paste that info here.

you should still be able to see the sys info tab, 3 to the right, even while the other stuff is black - if it gets more scrambled looking after clicking sys info, the minimize then maximize, it it's still looking bad and you really want to see it, change your wall to a color that's white or real light or open notepad (maximized) the restore WB config on top. It may be a driver issue (your graphics will be listed in the sys info also).

I started seeing a couple of builds back, but it pretty predominate now

I put notepad behind it - it's really ugly pulled up over an open browser - changing tabs leaves old text from previous tab and overlays new text

nothing behind it - went to sys info tab, minimized the restored to get a 'clear' shot

That looks like the UI bitmaps are corrupted when in memory.

What version of the video drivers are you using as that can be a sign of a driver bug.

First of all:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.0 (build 36 x86)

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

(Plug and Play Monitor) 1 is attached to Radeon X1650 Series
(SyncMaster 150N/152N/153N) 2 is attached to Radeon X1650 Series Secondary

Wblind.dll 2007/10/08 13:04:20
Wbsrv.dll 2007/10/04 17:58:04
Wbconfig.exe 2007/10/04 17:58:33
Wbload.exe 2007/09/27 17:47:44
Wbhelp.dll 2007/08/27 11:54:07
Wbui.dll 2007/09/24 19:08:06
Tray.dll 2007/09/12 17:58:21
Screen.exe 2007/10/04 17:58:24

I also get this problem sometimes (including right now when I went to get the above text). I have the latest ATI Catalyst drivers (7.10, came out a few days ago) but it happened with the previous drivers as well. Oddly enough, when I have my second monitor disabled the display paints properly - but from the text above the other person who experiences this issue only has one monitor... It doesn't affect anything else but the WindowBlinds configuration screen for me so I don't have much of an issue with it - I have the theme I want enabled and am not using the configuration screen to change things much.

also found - button glow effect residue - started early on = first noticed with Diamond - if a window was resized and then button clicked to max it, the glow effect stayed on my screen. The effect would disappear if I moused over the same button on the same window.

Last night though, using Spectrum, the glow stayed no matter what I did - right click desktop = refresh, ran various cleaner, changed wall, etc. It disappeared when I switched to XP theme. WB 6 release now uninstalled, getting ready to reboot and restore latest beta archive....

restoration of 6.00(.099 causes immediate failure and 'error must close SDC' - report generated and sent.

now restoring 6.00(.098...

Now running Vienna 2 Spectrum again (kudos to vStyler/John Gordon)

hmmm.... right clicking wb systray and choosing configur or double clicking seems to have no effect - configure not opening....

on the other hand, when it was open when 1st running the beta, configure was correctly showing as it should (no black/transparency)...

opening WB config via regular display settings worked...

systray still no work at this time... maybe need a reboot... will try that later...

checked processes, have a WBINST~1.EXE running... not sure if I should kill it or if it's related to the systray not being able to open WB config... sounds like the installer is still up, hence the tray icon not ready to work yet... I don't know....

anyway... running 6.00(.098... clicking around on all options in config... window appears to work, draw correctly, nothing seems amiss....

okay.....

On a whim I killed WBINST~1.EXE....

BIG mistake....

Everything started turning black....

Tried open WB config via properties - now I get the "YOU MUST REBOOT YOU RETARDED TROLL - HAVEN'T YOU BEEN READING THE FORUMS?" message....

When I locate the tab I can't see the system information since it's all black. However, it does show up when I highlight it for the copy, see below:

okay, rebooted - WB config came up - switched to Spectrum - no icon in tray - blank/black spots appear to be hit/miss...

seems to be more hit with Odock running...
