Skinning Unecessary?
Not bashing anyone, or anything.

i recently got rid of my gaming rig,and purchased a solid, business-class notebook. i love it, because all of my computer time is devoted to web-based activity, and i appreciate the fact that it does it's job. needless to say, it's not on par with the gaming rig it's replacing, (mighta dropped a core, half my ram, and 9/10 of my hard drive space, but it's still a very solid machine), but it does what it has to. I moved my skins over, and they ran just fine, no issues.i just did a reinstall, to upgrade to XP MCE, and upon hours of hard thinking, i decided not to skin my new install. I still have everything backed up, but i find that i sort of like the Energy Blue Luna theme that XP came with. i know, Luna can be really boring, and has nothing on some of my fave skins, but it does it's job. Just like the laptop.
Soooo, my question to you is...can you think of a time when you realized that maybe skinning wasnt necessary?
I believe that on some machines, heck, id say most machines, skinning adds a whole dimension to your PC. but im wondering if anyone else has had my situation happen to them.

When I got laptop last Xmas I lived without windowblinds for 6 months. But in the end I did end up d/loading stardock central and using windowblinds and IP etc.
But...
I removed it all cause I gave laptop to my son because it (laptop) was not doing the job for me.
He never used windowblinds so he wouldnt know what he was missing -

I noticed that the skins I keep using the most is not the elegant and colourful ones, but rather the simple and professional ones. Just shows you how I think ...

Honestly, I could live without WB longer than I could live without ObjectBar, ObjectDock, and DX but I wouldn't want to.
And of course, no matter what the haters say, WB doesn't slow my systems down at all so why not?

Some say that a Porsche is little more than a re-skinned Vee Dub Beetle.....
.....but I think I'd still have the Porsche ....

Agreed. I spend most of my working day looking at 3 Dell computers using Windows classic theme and some really bad graphics from a third party program. Six years ago I ran the same plants in DOS. Its so nice to come home and see something nice on the screen. Unnecessary, but nice.

I think rewording the above quote would fit better here: "Feel a desire. Fill a desire."
Skinning, and most, if not all, the things offered here are unnecessary. We get into these things because they strike well with us on a level, a certain cord if you will. Desire breed "want," and it is that "want" that drives places like this.
Jafo is known for keeping it short, sweet, and simple.
A Porsche is just like any other vehicle. It has 4 wheels, a driver seat, and all the basic necessities that make it a car. At the same time... "dude, it's a porsche!" to those who porsche struck a good cord on

that's what i did, only i used some transparent too. also, i just realized that besides beelzebub, i only liked Royale, which i just realized is basically energy blue
i think that when i was gaming, i had to bring my rig to LAN parties, so i wanted to trick it out, so people using boring ole Luna could see some purty stuff...

No customization is just plain gaye looking at the original xp themes is like putting battery acid in my eyes it just plain hurts, even the most basic function like the roll up thingy would be terribly missed
i appreciate your input. i also appreciate it when you keep it civil.
calling XP's default themes, whatever color, hard on the eyes is an opinion, not a fact. some people, myself included, find them to be at the very least tolerable, if not preferable to some of the skins on this and other site. besides, this is Royale, or Energy Blue. I like that the Start Button looks polished, i think the Blue is a slightly nicer shade, and i prefer blue to white in my start menu background. Media Center's extra screensavers, especially Nature, are very nice and rival the quality that i have found on this site, and that is saying something.at one LAN party, i had about twelve people that were more interested in my description of some of the skins on this site than on me fragging them!

I ran XP recently naked for a month or so....but ultimately HAD to put WB back on...as I absolutely HATED not having the roll-up and on-top functions.
Appearance didn't really faze me...though I ran classic, not Luna....
