SoundPackager Beta Released!

Available for Object Desktop Subscribers

Wednesday, September 12, 2007 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Stardock released the beta of SoundPackager, a new program that brings customization of your auditory experience to Object Desktop! SoundPackager is now available for Object Desktop users as a BETA announced today.

SoundPackager makes customizing your sound experience in Windows easy, by allowing users the ability to choose from "sound packages," eliminating the need to edit each system sound assignment individually.

SoundPackager supports over 30 different system sounds and includes unique Stardock Design sound packages that will eliminate the time that is consumed by users hunting down similar sounds to assign for each event.

With SoundPackager, sound packages come as a single file, opened through SoundPackager, containing sounds that are tailored to a specific theme (such as football, space, etc.). So now, when you apply a theme, 30+ sound events for Windows are updated to your favorite theme automatically! No more searching for sounds and assigning them each individually.

If you don’t have Object Desktop, visit www.objectdesktop.com to get it. Visit the SoundPackager home page at www.soundpackager.com.

The SoundPackager gallery on WinCustomize is now up, so you can now upload your sound packs for the rest of the community.

Question, Why is the "Copy Sound Package" in the menu?
I'd guess it's so you can customize a pack without wrecking the original.
A delete would be a great option.

Do yourself a favor and save your current sound theme before using this program. Do that by going to the control panel, sound tab, and save your old sound scheme. Once you play with this program, go to control panel, sound, and select your original sound scheme from the drop down list. Then, do yourself another favor and uninstall this until they fix it and provide more themes.

WoooooooW!!!!! And we were only discussing sound themes on another thread in the forums and low and behold, here it is !!!!!! Perhaps that 'little nudge' helped the guys at Stardock bring it to us a little earlier than expected but Brad's cute and this makes 'business sense'. Always keep your products in the 'limelight'. Look at avenues to improve your existing products and add new products when you can. You are on a roll, Brad......With this little sound number and WB6 coming up..........and I take my hat off to you and everyone at Stardock.

As an aside . . are uploaded packages going to have to be user produced?

I've written to the I.O.C. to see if they will include it in the London 2012 games.

Thanks for all of your feedback and patience with this BETA.

Delete button is on it's way.  We had that on the list, but decided to release the BETA now rather than wait.

We will uploaded a BASEBALL soundpack to the Wincustomize gallery this week.  Car racing to follow via an SDC update to the application.

As far as the themes go, I would be open to suggestions, but please remember that any suggestions about things that involve a copyright or intellectual property are more difficult to produce quickly due to the legal ramifications.

If we were to provide SoundPackages that involved IP we could include some with the base package to add value, but in order help with variety we would want to do more.  In order to allow people to only get what they want we would look to make these items available for purchase as well.

Would users pay for sound packages?  If so, how much?

any chance we'll see advanced customization of sounds?

For example a sound when Explorer.exe closes that is different than the sound when Interent Explorer closes?

The nice thing about licensed IP is that the quality of the product is usually checked by the IP holder to make sure it's up their standards.  I'd bet they provide the content in this case.

Part of the math in price is, "Is it cheaper to buy than make my own?"  Cheaper can encompass quality or time or effort.

I doubt that I would buy a stand-alone sound scheme.  But I would be much more likely to buy a MyColor suite with a soundpack included. (Having said that . . I'd probably spring for Star Wars.  Yeah, I know.  I'm a product of my youth)

I think more generic soundpackages will be better than licensed package in the initial release.  Create a "Sci-Fi" package that might go with some more "tech-y" WB skins.
A music series might be interesting.  Think disco, metal, classical, techno.  Those might fit with any skin or theme.
I think a first-person-shooter soundpackage might be popular. Imagine the Wilhem scream as Windows throws an error.

As an aside, I'd like to see somewhere in the app a tutorial/essay on what makes a good soundpackage.

As another aside, going forward is this the standard model for SD apps or is Logon Studio?  They are very similar but button placement is different as are some of the options.

Zargon0225, Zubaz hit on a option that I think most people would like. Along with My Colors suites, Master and Premium suites with the Sound Package would be nice.

A whole set of generic packages as Zubas suggested would also be nice in just setting up and completing your own desktop.

Based on the feedback I've read I'm going to wait to download, but I will use the package for sure.

Can you verify that you have "Show pre-release versions" checked in the lower left of SDC?
