Sat, Sep 15th, Software Freedom Day

Tuesday, September 11, 2007 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Personal Computing

Every once in a while I check out Earth Calendar just to see what Holidays or Celebrations are going on in the world.

I came across Software Freedom Day. I clicked on it and it took me to it's home page. I started reading about what it was trying to bring to peoples attention. Sort of took me back to the 60's with just some folks who were against the big companys and corporations.

Have you heard of anything happening where you live? I was surprised to see that folks were going to be set up at our local public library.

What's your opinion, just revisitng the 60's or is this something that merits everyones attention?

This is a good find. I wasn't aware of it, and it's too late this year, but I'm trying to organize a local Linux User Group. If we get a good group together, this is something to think of for next year.

Gideon, thanks for stopping by.

I guess I wasn't looking at this as just being Linux, more open source programing in general.

Oh, definitely. But while you can't count on all Windows users to be supporters of open source, it's a pretty fair bet most Linux users are. I just personally saw this as having potential if we do get a user group off the ground.

At any rate, it's a great find

Nothing close to me.  Too bad.

Anyone in Houston want to go to a Pandora.com meetup tomorrow night (Thursday 13SEPT2007)?   Let me know I'll send you an invite.

Hey Zubaz, do your own thread!

Only kidding. Didn't know what Pandora.com was so I googled it. How widesspread is it's use? Should we let everyone else know what it is or whould that be opening Pandora's Box?  I know, couldn't help myself.

Ugh

Pandora is awesome.  In my house it's use is VERY widespred.  RomanDA made a DX widget a while ago and that got me trying it.  It's so easy to find new music or make new stations.  I almost never listen to CDs or MP3s on my system.

Well it looks like I'm going to have to give this a try. Thanks for the heads up.
