theme

Tuesday, August 7, 2007 by techman619 | Discussion: Skinning

anybody know where to get a theme. I'm gonna try to make one seeing how I haven't been able to find one, but since I'm not really skilled in skinstudio it'd be great if someone interested in it had found one. Thanks.

Drugs are illegal for a reason.

1) I do not consider marijuana a drug.  It's a plant that grows from the earth naturally, without adding anything to it, and to those who use this plant, it is partaken of in it's completely organic state.  Our government has chosen to mis-label this plant a drug, just as they used to mis-label African Americans as property, in a time when the citizenry was less enlightened.  ASPIRIN is a drug--marijuana is a plant.

2) Yes, "drugs" are illegal for a reason, and marijuana (which is a plant) is illegal for a reason, however the REASON marijuana is illegal is not the same reason that "drugs" are illegal.  Please peruse this brief link: http://blogs.salon.com/0002762/stories/2003/12/22/whyIsMarijuanaIllegal.html

3) Just because something is illegal, does not make that thing immoral, or "wrong" in a global sense of the term, and just because something IS legal does not make that thing moral or "right."  We have a few past and a current sitting United States President, highest office in the land, who have partaken of this illegal substance (and some stronger), and "gotten away with it."  If an official from the highest office of the land did not consider this substance as heinous as child abuse and rape (for which a moral man would turn themselves in before even dreaming of running for the highest office of the land), then I believe it's time to re-examine the history of the illegality of this substance, the COST of what keeping this substance illegal is, and the things this country is having to go without due to the continued federal ban on this plant substance.

I believe in thinking outside the box.  Philosophically I view cannabis and hemp as a logical and reasonable answer to many of today's problems.  It's a renewable energy source, it can be used as an alternative to plastic, it relieves the nausea associated with chemotherapy; if legalized it would generate income and taxes, and could be REGULATED so it stays out of the hands of children, just as more toxic substances, alcohol and tobacco, have.

I refuse to let my government do my thinking for me.  I've researched this issue extensively, NOT because I wanted to justify my own use, but because I wanted to preach on the evils of it's use and the dangers of decriminalization.  Like so many other things in my life, I went out seeking "ammo" to use against "the enemy" and ended up learning I was fighting on the wrong side.

Research has determined that a person can use marijuana for 37 years and pull down 100k per year, log hundreds of thousands of miles behind the wheel and operate heavy machinery .

The alcohol study had to be suspended due to real bad results.

Too bad the first statement doesn't take into account the lung damage and cancer caused by MJ....but....

GWB pulled down $500K a year as POTUS...proving that second statement.

It's bad for business.  If marijuana were decriminalized, the DEA, the Bureau of Narcotics, and a bunch of privately-run prisons would have to downsize considerably, and the DEA and the Bureau of Narcotics employees would have to spend a large portion of their work day in much more harm's way going after meth labs and crackhouses, as opposed to pot farms.  And the biggest "bad" about feeling good...how are the little local governments going to make up for their budget deficits without being able to shake down drivers who fit "the profile" at $1000 a pop to keep the driver's indiscretion off their record and their lives out of court if pot is decriminalized?

I was actually referring to the movie but,,,

I'm going to go on the side of legalization. Pot and it's derivatives (THC, hash, hash oil, keefe, etc.) are no worse than booze or tabacco and of the three, probably less harmful. Hard core drugs should remain hardcore with the exception of "E" which would be better served if sold over the counter...

Until China starts manufacturing it and exporting it to be sold at Wal-Mart.

Any person's opinion as to the rights/wrongs, legality etc are irrelevant. Here it is a Class B drug, possession of which has a maximum sentence of 15 years, or unlimited fine, or both.

I wouldn't say that people's opinions are irrelevant, Fuzzy.

They should however be tempered with knowledge, not often the case with exposure to drugs in a "social" setting among young people. Parents and schools often fall down on this.

I certainly do agree, however that it's possession and usage are crimes, and that's "Where the rubber meets the road".

Consequences should be weighed before actions taken. Unfortunately, the young lack judgement which only tends to start around 21-23 years of age.

The real crime is allowing governments to determine...usually base on greed or extreme lack of knowledge or ignorance...what is good or bad for us. Marijuana/Hemp used to be a cash crop here in the U.S. and because of the ignorance of people in government and the ever so good propaganda that "Marijuana is evil" crap they keep spewing and that the ignorant people in society blindly accept without question it was suddenly deemed bad. Which is just bull. Yeah yeah I know...it's illegal...they should also make stupidity and ignorance illegal. Oh wait! Then we wouldn't have a government! Hmmmm!

Do a search on Youtube for "Hemp for victory!"

are you talking "pot" here. maybe in the UK but in many states it is a misdemeanor for possession of less than an oz.

That is true, but a crime of omission which happens out of laziness.

I'd avoid "good/bad" but point up that it is more of an irritant to the lungs than tobacco, and does produce carcinogens when burned.

they should also make stupidity and ignorance illegal. Oh wait! Then we wouldn't have a government!

Well, it would certainly become a lot smaller. And prisons a lot larger....after all, we're all "guilty" of stupidity and ignorance at some time. For me? Guilty of the latter from birth and will be through death.

Just ran across this on the web, and can't vouch for it's veracity (someone can be a good egg and try googling it), but:

The 8 Monkeys

(This is reportedly based on an actual experiment conducted in the U.K.)

Put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling.

Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the other monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up. Soon, none of the eight monkeys ever attempts to climb the ladder.

One of the original monkeys is then removed, and a new monkey is put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wonders why none of the other monkeys are doing the obvious. But undaunted, he immediately begins to climb the ladder.

All the other monkeys fall upon him and beat him silly. He has no idea why.

However, he no longer attempts to climb the ladder.

A second original monkey is removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempts to climb the ladder, but all the other monkeys hammer the crap out of him.

This includes the previous new monkey, who, grateful that he's not on the receiving end this time, participates in the beating because all the other monkeys are doing it. However, he has no idea why he's attacking the new monkey.

One by one, all the original monkeys are replaced. Eight new monkeys are now in the room. None of them have ever been sprayed by ice water. None of them attempt to climb the ladder. All of them will enthusiastically beat up any new monkey who tries, without having any idea why.

And that is how most policies get established.

I don't think a person's opinion is irrelevant here in the U.S., where several states have legalizes marijuana for medical purposes.  This is both an ethical and SUPREME legal issue, since when our government was formed, the purpose of the federal government was to address issues that were NOT already being addressed at the state level.  The federal government was never to interfere in state's rights, but that is exactly what is going on when the DEA goes in and shuts down a medical marijuana dispensary in California.  President Obama promised to address this issue while running for office.  He claimed this should not be happening (it should NOT be happening, based on the education I received in high school about the way our government is SUPPOSE to work).  Still, the DEA is shutting down dispensaries.  Obama claims this is due to a carry-over of the Bush administration in the DEA.

While I'd never use a marijuana theme, I didn't see anyone bash any of the toxic themes or even the camouflage themes which definetely are promoting war and carnage...

Maybe I should announce a "Terrorist theme", I bet alot of CS fans would love it...I also bet it would get alot less bashing than a drug theme.

(Yeah yeah, I ended up trolling... Never mind, I'm just being silly... But I feel I DO have a point here...)
