64-bit PCs: Drivers wanted

Friday, August 3, 2007 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Personal Computing

I know from reading the fourms that alot of you are trying to get their 64bit PC's working with Vista, and I think XP also. C/NET News has an article that talks some more about the problems and what Apple is planning on doing. Wonder if Microsoft will do the same or is it too late for PC owners?

I have made the switch to 64 bit Vista and all the drivers I need are now available. I don't know if it's me but 64 bit seems to run smoother and so far there has been only 2 programs that I have been unable to install. Most install under the Program files x86 folder and run good. But all this could be due to the fact that I am using a rather high end new hardware machine...........

Raisinjack, unless I've been incorrectly reading the recent posts most folks identify problems dealing with some of the programs that Stardock has updated for 64bit. What problems have you found, if any?

well, right now I am using the 5.51.025 version of WB and it works just fine. Log on Vista works, as does Deskscapes. Icon packager is so-so,and Cursor XP works just fine. WinCustomize browser and Stardock Central work as advertised. Tweak Vista is ok and Component tray does what it should. That is all I am running at the moment. I have Object Dock Plus installed but I have yet to work with it. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info though I was really asking so that other 64bit users can see how you are doing.    Was sort of hoping that more replies would come, maybe later on.

I made more or less the same experience with Vista64;

Most non-Stardock programs run fine, although finding a Firewall for Vista64 was a bit hard (there are still only a few out there).

As for the Stardock products:

ObjectDock: runs fine (didn't use the systray though)
Windowblinds 5.51.025: runs without a hitch
Deskscapes: no problem
LogonVista: no problem
TweakVista: I'm not sure about that, but I suspect that not all changes I make are actually "sticking".
IconPackager: had to uninstall as I lost all Icon-associations of my .exe-files (restoring the Icon-Cache didn't solve the problem). Furthermore, it didn't seem to change any of the dynamic folders.
CursorXP: didn't dare to install (might try it now after raisinjack's post)
RightClick: simply doesn't show when started - Still waiting desperately for an update!
