WindowBlinds 6 Beta Feedback
Wednesday, August 1, 2007 by Neil Banfield | Discussion: Stardock Support General
Please post all feedback about the WindowBlinds 6 beta on this thread.
Note that the beta is for 32 bit XP and Vista systems only. Please do not post about it not working on 64 bit XP/Vista. Please continue to use WB 5.51 on those platforms.
This beta is for Object Desktop customers ONLY. Standalone WindowBlinds 5 owners will not be able to activate this build.
Please note that you must have Stardock Central 2.46 Build 154 or later to install the WindowBlinds 6 betas. If you try and use older versions, it'll eventually timeout and give you an error about an invalid URL.
If you have problems with it running at all, please uninstall WB6, reboot and then try reinstalling WB6 again.

I'm using IE 7 and wondered how i can use Tool Bar Icons. Have I lost it?
You can only use them in IE6.

Here's my problem...
After I installed WB6b it worked fine. LOVED the way it looks, handles and all the bells and whistles, BUT after I booted my machine, my computer would not continue to boot, it would freeze at a certian point and I would have to push my reset button, log in as a different user who does not use WB or any SD programs, Rename the WB directory, log out, then log back in as myself for my computer to boot up under my name. Once I did this, I could then go back into Explore, name the WB dir back to normal, and load WB6b manually and it would run fine.
I ended up (after days of doing that), uninstalling WB6b under the other user name and I can once again get my log-in to complete a boot-up.
Why won't my machine complete a boot-up if WB6 is installed?
I run AVAST virus scanner and I even tried to disable the virus scanner and reinstall it at some point but when completed, I still have the same problem.

On startup I run auction centry, Tuneup Utility Memory manager, Ashampoo Magical Defrag, Holiday Countdown Pro, my Blue Tooth softare for my keyboard and mouse, OD, FX,CursorXP.
I have tried to disable Auction Sentury, because that's the screen it gets stuck on, but that did not solve the problem.
This last install, I closed ALL programs listed above except the BT (or I couldn't type), and the Logitec Driver/manager.

I was registered to windowblinds 5 only, but then I was so impatient to test the latest windoblinds 6 that I've finally upgraded to the whole object desktop suite (too bad, a few day before I got a coupon, which expired).
Here's my impressions:
1) I was so happy to be able to make some part transparent on my favorite theme.
2) The new GUI of Windoblinds 6 is awesome ... I love it.
3) Just switched from Vista to XP, and I'm missing an effect of Aero.
I'm disappointed to see that Windowblinds 6 doesn't seem to support it.
Let's try to describe the effect: when you move the window, there's a kind of shiny background in the title bar, that stay static. When you move the window, you see "more parts" of this background. If you ever played with CSS stylesheet (when customizing webpages) , there's a property called "static", the background stay fixed, when you scroll the web page. Same thing here for the theme but in the title bar. I miss that.
4) I don't find the blur effect quite customizable: it's blur or not blur. What about "blur less/more" ? What about a blur radius ? Making a "frosty" effect ?
5) As soon as you want to apply customization to a particular skin , you need to create a preset. What about applying customizations per skin , and that's all ? Why the trouble of making a preset ?
6) Changing color is nice, but it would have been nicer to decide which element to change i.e just like for the blur effect.
7) In order to switch to WB6, I tried to uninstall windowblinds 5 with stardock central and got an error (probably because it was standalone version) So I used the "add/remove programs" from control panel. Unfortunately this removed all my installed skins....
8) I was not that surpised to see sometimes some glitches ...but that was an acceptable level for a "beta".

I have found another (possible) bug. When Windowblinds6 is running I cannot Alt-Tab out of World of Warcraft and back in again. I can Alt-tab out fine, but when I try to Alt-Tab back in the desktop screen just flashes between the Gamma setting of windows and the Gamma setting of WoW - but it doesn't actually re-load the WoW screen. So basically I am left looking at a windows desktop flashin bright and dark!
If I close windowsblinds all works well.
I did used to get this problem with WindowsBlinds 5 but it went away with on of the updates a while ago.
I have the latest drivers for my ATI card and my system settings are still as before in my previous post.

this is what it should look like

the performance increase is amazing! I would really like to find a solution to this so I don't have to go back to Windowblinds 5.
Thanks!
Edit:
I found the problem. It was Yz shadow. I uninstalled it and installed windowFX and everything is good now.
How do you get the drop shadow on the taskbar to show with a window maximized? (little off topic)

I was just told about that on IRC. I don't want my skins moved to some even more obscure location in docs and settings folder either (I don't save anything to my docs). I don't really understand the purpose of that....

from what see i guess it's for put all our skins for SD applications (WB OD .....) on only one folder instead of on each applications folders

I'd expect to see more of it from other apps in the near future, not just Stardock
