WindowBlinds 6 Beta Feedback

Wednesday, August 1, 2007 by Neil Banfield | Discussion: Stardock Support General

Please post all feedback about the WindowBlinds 6 beta on this thread.

Note that the beta is for 32 bit XP and Vista systems only.  Please do not post about it not working on 64 bit XP/Vista.  Please continue to use WB 5.51 on those platforms.

This beta is for Object Desktop customers ONLY.  Standalone WindowBlinds 5 owners will not be able to activate this build.

Please note that you must have Stardock Central 2.46 Build 154 or later to install the WindowBlinds 6 betas. If you try and use older versions, it'll eventually timeout and give you an error about an invalid URL.

If you have problems with it running at all, please uninstall WB6, reboot and then try reinstalling WB6 again.

With the new wb6 beta and with molten skin loaded I get such or similar (no right border of window at all or pink strip instead of border) effect after restoring window from minimized position.

Are you running any other skinning apps or have you in the recent past?
Moletai
Reply #365 Friday, August 31, 2007 12:14 PM
No, I don't run any other skinning application, or did that in the past. Only Stardock programs, Yahoo widgets and Styler.
P.S. I have TuneUp utilities, but i don't use skinning capabilities of this program.

What happens when you unload Styler?

Didn't try. I will. But that effect i mentioned happens from time to time only, not regularly. Small glitch, may be...

That look like missing your right windowframe shadows.

No, it is not Styler's fault. After unloading it I could with the some min/restore clicks get effect i mentioned.

I really like the new GUI of the latest beta version. The changes are, IMHO, a positive step. There is one item, however, which I find less intuitive and even potentially confusing. In the menu on the left there is the item, "Add visual styles", which I was just informed is identical to the option "Install skin from disk" in the "Skin options" drop down menu. If it is the intent to keep the former in the menu on the left, I think it would be less confusing to use the same phraseology; "Install skin from disk". Perhaps I find it confusing, not only due to the different phraseology, but "Visual Style" to me connotes a skin which was designed for the default XP skinning engine and such programs as "StyleXP" and other "patchers".

I've seen the missing R border problem sporadically for a long time, even with 5.5, but almost always only after multiple skin reloads or applying a new skin. Usually a max/restore cycle fixes it. My guess is it is machine-specific (XP here).

I Sorta have a similar problem like Moletai. On any of the pop up screens or animations in Moulten only, the right border gives me a orange flashing effect on the right border only. Dosn't happen on any other skin I've tried. Also on the WindowBlind configuration screen under Settings Tab - Skinning Settings - Replace user Icon with the skin suplied Icon is permenantly checked and will not uncheck. Don't know if this is new or I just noticed it.

I totally agree 100%. They really need to be differentiated. Add Visual Style = msstyle, hacking/patching etc. Add skin = windowblinds.

"Install skin from disk"

I much prefer this command-style. Visual Styles also means same to me as somewhat archaic GUI-enhancement engine.

Thanks for the info on Molten. I didn't take a look for any new skins when installing so I hadn't noticed it. Looks somewhat interesting; Like the start menu and title bar animation - hate the taskbar. Interesting though.

Just to let you all know.
Here, the beta is running smoothly as well as the DesktopX beta.
I am running the betas on my:
Dell Dimension 4600 (OS: XP PRO SP2) with a pentium4HT cpu at 3.00GHz
1,024MB of DDR RAM with 320GB of storage.
The system has been on for 3 days straight using the Molten skin (I also used Beelzelbub skin by BoXXi).

That's or very similar is namely happening for me also. Only with Molten and max/restore cycle doesn't fix it.

I have also previously reported problems with Xaphire skin (posts 295, 298). But now these seems are gone for me when I chose Vista-ize option under control transparency and blur.
