To say that Windows Vista gets negative press would be the understatement of 2007.
From whining how nothing works on the OS to just install it into a shredder.
I feel that 90% of the problems encountered can be put down to human error (Never underestimate the stupidity of the common man)
For me Vista was a snap I backed up all my files and did a clean install.....Simple...No drama at all.
Stardock's LogonStudio Vista Was one of the first applications installed and after applying a few logon screens from LogonStudio Vista gallery at wincustomize I soon discovered that I could Make my own logon screens This is such a massive improvement from the XP version and with a few clicks of a mouse I can have a new logon screen to suit my mood and share my best with other wincustomize users.

i have been using Vista from 15th March. I did not complain about anything till now. It is the MOST secure and MOST user friendly OS till date. And yeah it does have some glitches and i am not talking about compatibility issues, glitches like Win+E glitch... lol.. then the most idiotic is file copying in Vista. Ok i accept that dialog showing a comparison of two files when same name present but while copying it takes so long time "Calculation time Required" thats so idiotic. To MOVE a file in the same drive which is just 200KB might take 30secs and some times miraculously 1 sec. lol
The ONLY compatibly issue i hated was that darn Scarface did not work.
If anyone found a solution to this to do inform me. Please!! And Good Luck Mr Gates with Vienna and Microsoft Surface!!

Yeah, I noticed some ridiculous times for file/folder copying (eg, 324 hours 37 mins for a 326mb folder), but it didn't actually take that long....all in all it only took about 45 - 50 seconds, give or take. It could be a little more accurate, but then it's not too big a deal/or a major snag that affects the running of the OS.

Yeah, I noticed some ridiculous times for file/folder copying (eg, 324 hours 37 mins for a 326mb folder), but it didn't actually take that long....all in all it only took about 45 - 50 seconds, give or take. It could be a little more accurate, but then it's not too big a deal/or a major snag that affects the running of the OS.

There is a couple of things you can do to speed up file transfer in Windows Vista,
The first I found by accident.
#1. copy the file to your clipboard, then paste into your system and the transfer is a little quicker.
#2. Download the Netmeeting-kb927853-x86-enu.msi hotfix from thehotfixshare.net
What this actually does I have no idea, however I took a "punt" and the hotfix seemed to speed up my file transfers by about 10 Mb per sec.
#3. Goto : Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features - Click the link "turn windows features on or off" Then uncheck "Remote Differential Compression".
#4. Disable "SearchIndexer.exe"
- Type services.msc in the searchbox of the start menu and click "services"
- Press Continue at the User Account Control Screen,
- The services management console will open,
- Scroll down to and Right Click Windows Search and select Properties,
- Click Stop,
- Select Disabled from the Startup dropdown menu,
- Click Ok,
- Close the services management console,
- No reboot required.
If none of the above work it wont be long before service pack 1 becomes avalible.

I don't have a slow file transfer issue, actually....the file copy/move dialog window can say a minute or two here and there, but in reality it's always considerably quicker than is displayed in the dialog window. If anything, Vista's file transfer service is faster than XP's, as I've found many others are also.
Yep, I'm enjoying using Vista very much, and if the first service pack fine tunes/tweaks it that bit more, then I'll be as happy as a pig in muck.

Well i aint taking about just showing a inaccurate timing, that aint a issue. What i am talking about is sometimes it just showing computing time required while doing nothing at all and what i am copying say a file 200MB just one file. After few seconds the transfer will be done in 5secs -15secs. But why pause and waste time during the first few seconds!
And hey anybody found the Scarface solution on Vista.

Well i aint taking about just showing a inaccurate timing, that aint a issue. What i am talking about is sometimes it just showing computing time required while doing nothing at all and what i am copying say a file 200MB just one file. Ive been on Vista since the Beta 2 days.(wow long time...) Dual Booted XP and vista beta 2, but as soon as I got Vista ultimate it was goodbye XP home, and i couldn't have been happier.
The only significant glitch I've had to date is the compatibility of my old programs, and of course the lacking support for Vista OpenGL by ATI.
