Flashback: The World Wide Web in 1994

The year is 1994, the World Wide Web is just two years old and NCSA Mosaic is the only browser worth using.  There are only a handful of websites in existence and they're mostly links, lists and very few low-resolution images.  Want news?  There are only 3 or 4 news sites to pick from.  It was a cleaner time, a simpler time, one where very few people yet had access, and the Internet hadn't devolved into one big spam and porn distribution channel.

Download Squad has a great video from Digital back in 1994.  It's a promotional video for Digital customers educating them on the many amazing opportunities presented by this new fangled web thingymabob.  It's actually kind of funny, hearing what they expected in 1994 and then comparing it to the reality in 2007.  And the sites they show, they come from a time before design mattered.

Interesting find. I did chuckle a little while watching the video. Just 13 years and so much has advanced since. I used to just think of the internet as this big virtual library/encyclopedia and a group of powerful people had downloaded all the information from all places and times onto it; essentially cataloguing everything that mankind has ever seen, written, or done, and it was all there. You could scroll for hours through the vast wealth of information. Mind you I was just a wee lass at the time, and very into reading and comprehension. I was already used to computers, that being a source of income, but the internet was different and mysterious. You were suddenly.....CONNECTED....to everything! Well soon enough the web became the norm and I can hardly remember when or what my first internet experience was. Just something that I got used to having and using on a regular basis. Still do alot of reading but sometimes I'm surprised at some of the limitations and how often I can't find the information I'm looking for on the VAST world wide web.

I remember having an internet 'based' email address via my WWIV BBS. And that was just out of college back then. Man that video makes me feel old.

i'm with stumpman on this one LOL that does make me feel old. Christ back in 1994 i was out driving my motorcycle and dirt biking on the weekends with my friends
