The Apple Computer Turns 30

On this day, in 1977, The Apple II, considered to be the first real personal computer, went on sale.  With its integrated keyboard, built-in BASIC programming language, color monitor and sound card, it set the standard for what people would expect from a PC in the years to come.  The machine, after officially kicking off the PC craze, went on to dominate the education industry, filling classrooms nation-wide with systems.  A lot of people cut their teeth on an Apple II running LOGO, or playing Oregon Trail.

When did you get your first home PC?  Was it an Apple?

We had an Apple ][ in my house.  I remember having to fast ofrward and reverse to the right counter on the cassette to load apps and my father flying off the handle when my sister and I would reset the counter "for fun".

First computer I ever used was an Apple (or Macintosh), that was way back in school.  My first home comptuer was a Vic-20.

Jafo has an Apple IIc complete...printer/mouse/ext floppy drive... paid AUS $5 for the lot.

All I need now is some OS floppies ....

I have developed software for 36 years but first home computer I bought was a Vaio about 3 years ago. The early ones would not fit at home. The little ones did not do enough (anybody hear of Varian Mini-computers ). Work always bought me a laptop (or lugable or terminal) never needed one. The phrase that shows my age.

"IBM Vice-Presidents are always buried face down 9 edge leading" Anybody know where that comes from.

I cut my teeth on the old Apple II. And I used to love Oregon Trail. Our first home PC was a COMPAQ.

My first machine was a C64, although my high school had a bunch of Apple IIs and TRS-80s. Commodore was the original king of the PCs!

My first machine was a Vic20, which we had for about a week before my father took it back to the store for a C-64.

My first was a Commodore Pet. Loved waiting 5 minutes for the tape to load the Star Trek game. Oh the days! Bought an Apple Macintosh 128 in college when they came out. Still have it but it just gives me a sad face on boot.

My first computer was an c-64 with tape drive,half and hour to load gunship.played for hours though.Graduated to Amigas later.Memories

I remember playing Oregon Trail in like 3rd grade, using the big 5.5" floppies. We'd all race to the disks to see who would get it first.

My first PC was also a Compaq, back in 1999 (I was 16). Oh how I hated that POS...lol.

My first computer experience was on an IBM 360 Model 20 Mainframe.........It had a card reader/puncher that often ate the punch cards and caused us to redo them.

My first home computer was an IBM clone that ran a GUI called Gem (I think that was the name - my memory is starting to go with age........).

Fortran here....[not my own, obviously] round about '69 or '70.

First 'PC' was a CBM64 20-odd years later....

We had a Vic-20.  After that, we had an Apple II close called a "Franklin".  They went out of business after Apple sued them into oblivion.

decades ago. A well-used School-District throwaway, Apple 2e with three floppies & two other drives, all external. Had to do a lot of DOS fumbling to run it.
