Problems with desktopX
Monday, June 4, 2007 by frink84 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
i'm quite new in skinning my winXP and i encountered some annoying problems in the past!
i think the pros can solve them in a few minutes. i'm lookinf forward to receiving some good support.

1. Is it normal that when you use windowblinds and desktopX that first of all the windowblinds desktop is showing? I would like to have my desktopX-desktop on all the time and from the start!
2. Whats exactly the difference between objects and widgets for desktopX? i found some entrys in my startup-folder which were from widgets? so arent they really integrated in the desktop but startet as single progs at startup?
3. i'm using stealthOS by mike bryant(wb) and gridscapeDX1280 by BoXXi (dX) - if somebody uses this two skins, i would be glad to here how you arranged them together, or maybe some of the pros can switch to them and give me a hint of using them together properly!
many thx and by the way i'm from austria, so please don't be to critical with my english!

The Load Objects option is designed to import a desktop object onto your existing Windows desktop. Things exported as objects tend to be more along the lines as "super icons". Things that do more than your Windows icons but aren't really applications. A "Recycle bin" object that tells you how many items are in the recycle bin would be an example of a desktop object. Or an Internet Explorer "icon" that changes its size and shape when the mouse moves over it would be another. These are .DXPack files.
I think that even if you modified the boot order WB will finish loading before DX. I could be wrong.

but i think i'm not able to fix the problems i'm dealing with!
there is a problem concerning wallpaper and some other things which are quite annoying!
maybe you can give me a hint!
just tell me a wb-skin and a desktopX-theme that fit together well so i can see how it works together!
maybe i just need some more practice!

thx again

I guess I don't understand. Do you want to see a DX Theme and WB skin that look good together? Or that function well together? Both really are a matter of taste.
You can set wallpapers in both DX and WB or set one to not apply the included wallpaper. Is that one of your problems?
What are your other problems?

is it not good to use wb AND desktopX at the same time?
actually i'm more into wb, but some of the desktopX-themes are so cool, that i wanted to integrate them, but it seemed to be not working!
another problem is that some of the desktopX-themes don't look like on the page either i have the right resolution!
actually i want some basic system info on my desktop, but while searching i figured out what desktopX is all about and i tried some themes.
i think function is mor important than look! do you have any suggestions?

You might want to grab ThemeManager, build the desktop you want using WB and DX widgets and gadgets, and then save that for later use.

1. right click your desktop in new window click configure desktopx. go to preference page in desktop settings click run destopx at start up.
2 Objects have to run in desktopx while Widgets can run without desktopx running.
Have fun
