Why was the 'Does anyone read the rules ?' thread locked?

What happened to no more locking threads?

What happened to all that was said, not 4 months ago?

The point is we WANT people to be able to have different opinions.


But here's the point: In an OPEN community such as ours, we have the right to disagree. Do I make myself clear: You have the right to an opinion and someone else has the right to disagree with your opinion.


I think you have every right to voice your concern.


the point isn't whether I agree or not, it is that we have an atmosphere where people feel free to voice their opinions


We want to have a community site in which people are free to *discuss* issues that concern them


close the site before I'd allow it to become a place where only "valuable members" get to have a say on how the site is run.


If someone disagrees with a policy of the site, a decision of the moderators, or has a problem with a user, let it be discussed civily and openly without someone commanding others to adhere to their demands lest they take their things and go. Because that time is over now.


There was a conversation taking place. At the very least, some people got to blow off steam, but it was a conversation with no threats that we were told we could have openly and freely in the forums.

I'm with Po' on this one. If your going to lock a thread, you might as well delete it from the forum otherwise it just becomes like a newspaper (read and discard) thats not a forum.

I've only been a member for a short time here (about 2 months) and in that short time, just from browsing the forums, I have seen about 3 posts made by Fairry concerning rips and also many times when people are looking for stuff they used to have and lost, Fairry knows where it is.

I'm not asking for it's removal because it was locked. I am just asking 'why'?

Throughout the thread, I was in PM with a SD employee and one of the last things I said was that my only fear was what happened. The thread would be shut down.

Brad, you told us there would be no more locking of threads. The quotes above are yours.
Personally, I feel, it's this kind of inconsistency that leads to a lot of the animosity and frustration.

I don't know 'who' locked it...but how can you have it both ways and expect to gain the community support for your side of the discussion?

I think Po it was more due to the accusatory tone taken by some. There comes a point when discussion unfortunately disseminates into venom slinging, at which point I would probably have closed it too. Perhaps it would be better if locked threads were deleted, not my decision to have to make fortunately.

I second Fairyy for QC too...lord know's she can spot em.

I would say it was locked to try to defuse the arguement.most all who had an opinion, stated them already.. any more would just been repetative and unnecessary, not to mention inflamatory...

Peoples concerns were posted, Suggestions were posted, Questions were asked, and answered by Admin & Mods to the best of their ability & or to the extent that they wish to.

And no one was satisfied by the answers. So the next step is?...continue to ask the same questions? Take the admin & mods out to the parking lot, tie them up & force them to view RIPs until they give in & do what was suggested?

If you still have something to say to the admin, how about taking it to e-mail, they answered what they can here.

How much steam can a volunteer take before it makes them wilt?

So as in life, our suggestions, wants & needs do not get met to everyone's satisfaction. Then maybe it is time to move on to a bigger & better cause. Focus that energy on finding those RIPs, search the sites & help by PMing or e-mailing a mod here with the necessary info.

Because in the end the more we do to help the admin/mods in whatever way we can will only improve the site & make us a part of the community.

Turn the negatives into something positive...what you give out will come back at you.

boss0190 as you have chosen not to receive e-mails, I will spell this out in public. Your recent behaviour on the site has deteriorated to the point I am no longer able to tollerate. Abusing other senior members, new users, and generally being unpleasant towards the site, its members and moderators, is not behaviour befitting a Journeyman. Therefore your access level has been reduced to visitor until you show genuine regret for your actions.

The last thing (overburdened) moderators need is to get involved in this sort of fracas. Regrettably sometimes we have no choice. I really did not need to come home to this.

Hopefully, members would choose to support and help site officials, sadly, some do not believe this to be their responsibility. Others do a fantastic job.

I would hope calm will now prevail and we can all get on with that forgotten hobby we all pursue - skinning. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, if you lose sight of that then perhaps you need a different hobby.

I thought that was what Brad did when he said there would be no more locking of the threads. I thought that was what all his comments were about. I thought we were free to discuss..barring threats. Instead, a final opinion was given and the thread locked, despite what was said about locking threads, free to voice opinions, and discussing it openly. Conversation over. No chance to see how it plays out or if it would for the better.

We have a place to discuss things or we have it when it suits whoever or someone who decides that the discussion is over shuts it down and everyone in it as well.

This may be why there is so much confusion and frustration. How can any other issues be resolved when it's hard to find consistency in the foundation and you don't know what things are going to hold true and what aren't?

Brad doesn't like threads to be locked but that doesn't mean one won't be.  Why leave a thread open when it is going down hill at the speed this one was.  How many ways do you beat a dead horse to death?  Seems everything that needed to be said was said 5 different ways.  I don't have time to spend chasing down each upload on 30 different skinning sites to make sure it wasn't ripped.  Then if I see it and it has a different nick, sending out an email to find out if they are the same person or whos skin it is.  Granted, I don't work but I do have a life and things to do.  I can't spend hours like some people can, who don't have lives, chasing down walls, logons, boots and whatever else to see if it was ripped off.  I spot some and miss some.  we have what, 10k of walls on this site.  I'am sure if someone reupped one from 6 years ago, I might miss it.  Who knows.  This site gives in to the members  and will probably have more changes in next years plans.  But from what I can see, there will still be people complaining, so WC will never beable to please everyone.  So less complaining and more helping and positive suggesting and I think things will look up.

I thought he said 'no more' to that. Am I wrong? Or does my question still go unanswered as to what we can or can't count on as far as Brad being accountable to how he said things would be? Will there be 'other' reasons as the individual situations arise to lock a thread? What I'm getting at...and this will get me in hot water (hotter water?) but I don't know any way to ask without doing so...but it's like the rules are being made up and changed as we go along here.

Admins/Forum moderators have site management tools at their disposal.

One of these is a 'thread locking' tool.

Policy is that it not be used - to enable the continuation of opposing opinion/discussion without censure.

Policy does not prohibit its use if deemed warranted by those entrusted with its use - in situations where there is no other recourse.

That particular thread had long since ceased to be about the handling/removal of exposed rips [the topic/intent of the thread author] and had devolved into open insult and condemnation of the site moderators' efforts/professionalism.

I can only support the decision of the thread closer for that very reason...

The forums are also for helping others & after a long weekend there are few unanswered questions. I have bumped a # of them that I am unable to help with.

How about letting this thread die & see if we can help answer anyones questions.

I agree. there is a difference between heated exchanging of views/debate and a flame fest bent on ripping people appart....

I would close any thread that bordered on personal attacks towards other members,warned and or removed posting priveleges of those who were bent on making attacks instead of valid points......

OK, Po...to make it clearer.....

I see two issues.

Insulting the professionalism of the admins/mods is  'personal attack' which violates site rules...

And...

As has become quite clear here and now, the thread became an avenue for members' self-destruction.

Neither is open discussion, nor even simple argument/disagreement...
