Dumping old stuff

old windowblind stuff

Saturday, May 19, 2007 by mschleisner | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

windowblinds, some of this stuff is really old, I don't have the talent to make these but those of you that do, please give us some new stuff, over 300 is great but some are very old and not very good anymore. The new stuff is great, I personally want to thank all of you who make these, but couldn't we dump the really old stuff? Thnx, Just my opinion. Hoping to get some new stuff for my money.....

Some of the old stuff is great, even by today's standards. I've been thinking about updating one or two favourites for personal use.

Well you have all convinced me that my opinion was just a little shallow. I know it takes a long time to create these wonderful skins. If you think I don't get it, you are wrong, I do. I said I don't have the gift to create these works of art. I again state for the record, it was just a thought and not intended to "crab" anyone out. This is the only site on the "web" that gives me all I need, cursors, wallpapers, windowblinds, icon packager, and stuff no one would think of for the fun of their computer. Friends always ask when they see this stuff where I get it and many have bought the programs here because of the price and quality of all the work. I just hope those who are talented keep up the good work. Thanks Again to those who have done such a great job here.

(Mrs)mschleisner,
A very viable proposition, and one that has raised some good ideas on sorting the galleries. I sometimes wish for the themes I had, pre-crash, from 2001 that are now lost in cyberspace somewhere. To me, it's all good, one way or another.

Perhaps a point worthy of note....for those of us/you who may not actually be using the Windows shell [Explorer.exe] even the very earliest WB skins still work just fine, eg. most of mine were done when Win98 was still new....but they're still installed/working in XP Pro [the OS most are still using]...

I agree, And sorting the galleries would be great. I understand that the old stuff is great, in it's time, yet again, I do not wish to offend, I love everything at this site, just been a member too long and I am here so often that it starts to look old to me sometimes and I think if it was a little more split up it might create more interest in certain spots and you would know where the areas that people would be leaning. Keeping up with what is new is very compelling nowdays. The beauty in what is done is something I can't explain. I am just starting to do my downloads and learning what is accepted and what isn't. Everyone has a camera and you have a great site here.

Once in a while I think about deleting my old stuff but then again that would mean to lose some personality on the site (not for others but for me personally), so I dump that idea. And it always reminds me that I still want to update stuff.

No dumping.

Windowblinds Classics! instead.

I'm here less than a year and a lot of the older skins, of which I have quite a few, I would not want to give up nor would I deprive newcomers from discovering them on their own. Like vintage autos WBs of a certain genre should be classified as such and put in a special place. Hence a Classics category. Just my opinion.

I sure wish people would look at my recent post about this, I get it already. Thanks for all the input, seems like I started something that won't come to an end.

We really should vote on Classics, which were most creative, which were best usage of new feature then, and best of all older than X years.

Well you didnt start anything bad.   This Thread may kick around for while longer because some pretty good ideas are coming from it.

I don't know if a separate section for classic WB's will/could happen but it is a good idea. Maybe a suggestion for WC2K8. Maybe a Gold record ,or some other indicator could be placed next to it showing it to ba a classic.

I still go back to the classics just for the sheer beauty of them. Most  if not all may never get updated and that is just fine.

I to enjoy going back and looking at the classics.Once in a while I find something that catches my eye that I hadn't seen before and I have to have it. It is also great to see how skins have evolved over the years.

I still don't understand how to get to the new stuff, I know I can't find mine when I look for them. I have only had 1 or 2 downloads on my wallpapers and can't seem to find them listed. Do others have this problem. I looked in newest, nothing. It seems you have to have alot of hits to even get in there. How do I win an award to get my stuff seen? There is something I guess I don't get here. If you download a Photograph and it's not under newest then how does someone find anything to download it and we get the hits. By the way I.R. Brainiac stated I have a tone or something to that effect, excuse me but I didn't deserve that. I am a simple honest person who would like to see this site bloom and it was something I think needed to be looked at because as I stated before, some people did have problems with the older stuff on their computers and this stuff great as it is needs to inform those who have newer systems that they might not work or look good on todays computers. Thank You.

Not all submissions make it to the main gallery.  Some submissions are moderated to a users personal gallery because they don't make the cut.

In the past, those submissions would be deleted.  Now, you have the opportunity to still "market" yourself and your work.  Some submissions that get sent to your personal page will get a ton of hits.  Just ask Po' Smedley.

The newest submissions on the front page cycle pretty quickly but you can always see what 's new in descending order from most recent to furthest  past by selecting that  gallery (i.e. choose Windowblinds and click next until your fingers hurt; there's some good history there).

I'd suggest that if you find a skin that doesn't work on newer systems, you leave a comment on that skin.  Let the author know.  He or she may choose to update the skin (or just the description).

Tone is very hard to convey in text.  Sometimes new visitors to the site start critiquing before they know how things are.  This can do two things.  One, it can illustrate potential gaps in the system that may need filling.  Two, it can make the commenter appear to not care enough to learn what's going on before shooting off their mouth.  Now that I think about it, there is a third option . . a mix of the above.

This site has been blooming for years with a constant stream of skinners, blowhards, moderators, coders, asses, and admins.  Some folks are lucky enough to become family.  Some are more comfortable living on the edges.  *SOME* people don't  make the cut and are not welcome (and are banned).

I certainly hope you find a place here, you are welcome.

I was here before 2001 as a visitor, and yes someone who downloaded for free. Then the the lightbulb went off and I purchased stuff......Then this past month another lightbulb went off and I started to download some wallpapers. Got to change those lightbulbs a little faster in my old age. I am so glad to be here, and thanks for the kind words. And to all those who make this site great, Thank You.
