Windows Vista: 100 Days, 40 Million Sold

Say what you like about Windows Vista, how you'd never install it on your box, how it's too expensive, too bloated or too under-supported to succeed in the marketplace. Rant and rave and wave your Linux flag, or Windows XP flag, or heck even your old BeOS flag if you've still got it. Because, according to Bill Gates' speech at WinHEC yesterday, the naysayers don't appear to matter. In the first 100 days of Windows Vista's general availability, Microsoft sold over 40 million licenses (1 license = 1 install typically) for the new OS.
Of the 40 million sold, roughly 78%, or around 31 million, were Home Premium licenses.
Currently, Windows Vista accounts for nearly 14% of WinCustomize's weekly traffic.

Exactly why I plan on concentrating my skinning priorities heavily towards XP..at least say.. 86% Just makes sense...at this time.

Im sure the majority of the sales are new PC's to either new users or folks that are just now finding out what a mistake they made.
I spent 5 days in Vista last week converting my latest WB and It seriously was one of the most frustrating weeks in recent memory, I would never recommend it to anyone that I liked.
It's not coincidence that FAR more people who have tried it are complaining rather than praising.
Wouldn't surprise me if half of the Vista Fanboys aren't secretly using XP in the middle of the night when no one is around.

That's my point, indirectly. That 40 million licenses MS sold does not consider that those vendor units probably have not been sold. 40 million computer enthusiasts have not run out and purchased 40 million retail licenses.

Zommba here's a question that may be a little hard to answer. Can the 14% of Vista traffic on Wincutomize be broken down by what the traffic was about? Is it just looking at the forums or does in include Vista uploads and downloads?
Please, I'm not trying to be a wise a**, but it would be interesting to see what the traffic would identify. Do they show that people who have Vista are having no problems, minor problems or throwing up thier hands?
Why do I ask, well I have found it's much better to listen to the users of a product then the manufacture.

but because that Microsoft is not telling people that if you UPGRADE From XP or older then you will
have to go out and buy a new monitor, Graphics Card, new speakers, DVD, ect... as for the monitor and stuff
it is not or will not be compatible with Vista when they turn the Digital switch on in 2009.
all do to the new DRM .

It's a fact that Vista will inevitably take over, but there is a big problem with driver support, that is a fact. And as i'm a big online gamer, i took a look at vista to see how it differs from XP Pro. I must say we had a lot of bother installing Call Of Duty2, and Stalker was a pain in the ass, so until a few things are ironed out, and they will be just like XP was when it first hit the shelves, I myself won't be happily spending cash on it anytime soon

i got quake IV,DooM 3,UT2004,stalker,prey and the oldest game i got is aliens vs predator 2...they all installed with no problems at all and i'm running vista ultimate 64... and as far as the DRM goes i'll install what ever i want on my rig..they don't like it then tough sh*t!! they can pay me the thousands of $$$ i spent on my rig and istall what ever they want on it.

I'd really like to know the numbers on how many people actually went out and purchased Vista (take away OEM and free updates from recent hardware purchases), it would be great to know what people were upgrading from as well.
If you compare sales given the amount of PC's in use today compared to when XP was released I think XP would have been a stronger seller. I'm sticking with XP MCE, given it has media center and remote desktop I'd need to shell out for Vista Ultimate to get the same functionality and it just ain't worth the dollars!

Well, I have Vista Ultimate, and my computer is about three years old, and I really haven't had any problem installing, or getting anything to work. And, honestly, it's just a prettier XP. I bought it the day it came out. It took a little getting used to, but it's still just a cute XP. The "Dreams" are the only "huge" difference I've seen, and it's nothing to write home about. Oh yea. I have a $500 eMachine. Also I didn't pay but a couple of hundred for Ultimate. So, really do whatever trips you're trigger. I was just wanting something different from XP. Oh well. Same thing. I think OS's have come about as far as you can go. I mean you can always put a few more bells and whistles, but it's still the same thing. And I started back when there was'nt anything called "Windows". Janis Joplin said it best in Ball And Chain. "It's All The Same F______ Day". Peace. Ok. Now jump on me. Fresh meat.

well watt can I say,I have windows XP home edtion and its really good compatible with every drive,software,games,etc and also it has the much better wished suport we all need for the software.now if u compare the look of XP WITH VISTA then vista is 100% fresher and good looking,the onlly problem I see about vista its the availiability to get updates,and certain drive updates (as so many people are saying) but with everything comes a price to pay i supose!
I am really thinking of getting vista for the simple reason that for one,its looks cool and much easier to use for 2 it has the option of searching for any file u want from one location without much problems for 3 it has far more features than XP for the future computer needs as time goes by technology will be much more advanced and certain software or drives etc will require u too have vista or at least a certain mininum of spec.. not saying that everyone will go out and spend loads of cash on unessesay tech,but if u reall are into computers and all this new technology then its worth thinking about watt will come ahead and watt better way to prepare for it.
well thats my opinion i give XP 50% and vista 50% since they boths have good's and bad's

im still paying off this pc i got a year ago...cant even think about vista upgrade..plus i heard if you got vista your printer wont work anymore (you have to upgrade or something)....(i love my printer) someone tell me if thats wrong please...filthy rumours always seem to swing my way.........
