Putting windows blinds for vista in own category ?

Windows blinds

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 by dhankster | Discussion: Skinning

Hi,

Can you tell me why wincustomize hasnt made a windows blinds section only for vista, Most of the blinds ive tried to use dont actually work with vista, And i do have latest blinds 5 (5.50 (build 102 x86 - Vista Edition) , Some dont specify what o/s it needs to run on, I see that the login has its own section, Why not blinds ? , Just wondered if there was any paticular reason why not, Tia

I second this idea, in fact I have started making completely seperate versions in the hopes to push towards that end.

SkinStudio Vista hasn't been released yet, therefore all blinds are XP only - but will work on Vista. I don't have a problem with mine on Vista, they look and work fine

WindowBlinds made for Vista should work on XP, minus the Vista parts, so I don't think a separate section is needed.

Currently there ARE no Vista skins...just Vista compatible.

Ok,

I do see your points, But i still feel it would make alot of sense to put in a vista compatible section for now to alleviate confusion due to compatibilty issues, Or failing that to say in description that they are tested vista compatible, As some blinds i have downloaded just look like win98 style and arent compatible with vista whatsoever, We should embrace this new o/s and in the eventual future taking over from xp...

I haven't run into too much trouble running current WB skins on Vista.  What are some of the skins you are having trouble with?

I totally agree, skinning Vista is still very new (we're in an early beta stage at that) and it should just be assumed that windowblind skins are intended for windows xp only unless the author has indicated that they have tested their skin to confirm that it works in Vista as well. Creating a section for vista skins right now wouldn't make much sense yet considering skinstudio for windows vista hasn't even been released yet. I'm sure it will happen, we're just not there yet.

There are some current skins that do work ok in Vista, you just have to do some searching.

The problem with that is LOTS of people are complaining about and asking for Vista versions in threads that contain skins made by people who don't even have the OS. It's a lot of added pressure and frustration for those who can currently only skin for XP. I hear it from a lot of skinners.

Also there are TONS of skins that for Vista user's would be painful to look at and a complete waste of time and bandwidth.

I'd like to hear one bonafide reason we should't have a Vista taking what I have said into consideration.

Please don't say state it in the description because we already know many people don't read it.

I've found most skins I exported from my WB library on XP Pro work fine in Vista. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part I've had very few problems with pre-existing WB's working in Vista.

It would be good when SkinStudio Vista is released to have a separate gallery, but for the meantime a 'works in Vista' would suffice.

Very tough to develop skins for a platform you don't own - I remember how frustrating it was trying to skin for XP on a 2k rig, SkinStudio being "hopeful" & all.

Don't know if it's technically feasible, but it would be a huge boon if SKS were to have OS-specific Previews that were really "true" so you could see how a skin looks on each OS, even if you don't have it. Probably not doable, but at least we can dream.

Neil did say there would be OS specific sections in the new SKS.
