it is quite pretty and a good start... but essentially it looks like just a couple of filter effects... a few clicks of a button..
I did a pic with some filter effects once... lots of effects... and it ended up a very pretty, marbled trails look... but I knew it wouldn't be of much interest as it was, so wondered how I could add a feature to complement its shapes and give it a presence... I came up with this, and it proved very popular... link... not everyone's cup of tea.. but it worked out ok...
I have many walls I've tinkered with that are unfinished that just didn't end up clicking... I think you will find others are like that too... you have to keep it evolving until you are happy with the end product... keep it on the back burner and come back to it after awhile and do some more tinkering... but if you get stuck on just one and obsess about why it doesn't work... you are wasting time not getting stuck into the next one that might click and continuing the learning process...
I'd suggest you wander back through the gallery too.. instead of finding ones that aren't great, to compare your work to.... find ones that do work and look at why..
these are a few plain blue ones by v that I enjoy using... very simple... but they work well... link... link... link.... and these.. link.. link..
I'm no 'wallpaper artist' but we can all have fun dabbling...it's a matter of learning to have that eye as to when it is right and when it is lacking...
here is the link again... link to a 'wallpapers in progress' thread that I suggested before... or, start your own.. I think that would get more focussed response from some of our experienced artists... and you can also improve your skills with tutorials as well...
good luck... keep at it...

Quoting Pizentu, reply 740WHAT???? WTF is this? Is this comment real or are you being a jerk to me?
That's levity. Not an insult. As a 'part of the community' you will frequently run into this. Sometimes at the wrong moment and completely out of context. Currently, Starkers is working on his thesis in forum levity. He already has a phd in tom-foolery and the fine art of gluteus-pootius. Get used to it.
To be really blunt...
I have seen a lot worse on other galleries. Yet, this wall is ..I don't always explain myself well....but it's just missing something.
Let's start with - What were you going for? and What program are you using?
When I was making it, I was trying to recreate something someone had created in Photoshop. I have Gimp so I didnt have all the tools to create the same effects. Half way through I started seeing the image as melted plastic and went my own way from the tutorial and tried to perfect the image.

ditto
and the lighting could be more even overall.
I have the hardest time with backgrounds. I often think I have what I want and hate it and then I take it and twist it and mess with it. The wallpaper you've done is something I'm not even very good at or comfortable with when it comes to minimalistic. I took your wall and had my way with it.

I'm not saying it's better. I'm just trying to show you can take something and really spin it.

It's a painfully simple 'filter effect' that a trained seal would probably be reticent to put his name to.
The only positives are that it appears to be wallpaper 'shape' and it's blue. If you were to poll the most common colours used on a desktop the answer would be....
blue.
Best thing to do to 'improve it' is to put it aside and move on to something else.

Hopefully covering the rude bits... otherwise I'll not be able to look.... don't wanna risk a total shutdown.
Yeah, my doctor reckons I have low blood pressure and need more exciting... um, stimulating things in my life, and Britney's bits would likely send me to sleep.
Nope, she'd take that as flattery and... let's just say that old codgers like me ain't likely to survive her 'frustrations'. ![]()

Yay, I'm part of the club! And I got the award!

I'm... I'm just so touched to have received this. Now, do I use Sally Field's "you like me" speech, or Albert Brooks' "you don't like me, you really don't like me" tweet?
Oh, and this is what got me here.

Congratulations Starcandy. I wonder if they still have the chocolate one.

But in case there is a chocolate one....

There had better be a chocolate one now that he's mentioned it, or POW, right in the kisser!
