Mozilla Expands Into Social Networking

I'm sure you've all spent countless hours thinking to yourself "Man, this web browser is really spiffy, but why doesn't it give me the functionality of MySpace or Facebook?" Well, if that's the thought that has crossed your mind any number of times, then the folks at Mozilla Labs have just the thing for you! Today they announced work on "The Coop" a social networking extension for the Mozilla Web Browser platform (Mozilla is the superset of code that Firefox is derived from).
The Coop aims to make sharing interesting content between friends as easy as possible, with just a few clicks of the mouse in fact. Users who have the extension will be able to tag items of interest for their friends, subscribe to other friends to see what they have found interesting, all in an attempt to make the experience of actually browsing the web a more social and interactive experience. Whether or not this add-on takes off is anyone's guess. If successful enough, it might eventually make its way into Firefox or Mozilla as an integrated feature.
Would a social networking tool built into the web browser pose a threat to established networking sites like MySpace?
