Which Vista is Vista?

Fun with WindowBlinds 5.5

Sunday, March 25, 2007 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

 vs.

One of these is Windows Vista by default and one of these is Windows XP with WindowBlinds 5.5 running.  Of course, if you look closely at the text in the notepad windows, it's pretty easy to tell.

But check out that the non-Vista actually is more consistently Vista than Vista (you'll know what I mean when you look at the non-theme aware app pictured).

Why does the Vista version of the WB config have the pretty task pane but the XP one has the dull boring luna-style blue one?

I was wondering this myself when I installed WB on Vista...

And so the train rumbles on. Look, will people please stop complaining about the amount of RAM Vista uses, and actually research the topic?

actually i did

My friend has vista installed and he told me it uses about 480mb of ram (he has desktop sidebar disabled)

and on top of that the drivers that ATI and NVIDIA rushed out for vista don't work as great as their XP counterparts (but pretty good don't get me wrong)

I'm pretty sure i can disable stuff to make vista run on very little memory but for now there isn't much of a reason to upgrade yet.

But to the point i did a fair bit of research on vista, and i really want to try out that readyboost feature

I loaded vista onto my older computer with only 512 mb memory and it worked fine.

...until you start running apps.

Sorry frogboy, WB 5.5 doesn’t even come close to making XP look like Vista’s GUI. Besides I thought you had UPGRADED to Vista? I guess stardock is still trying to make crumbs off of everyone who hasn’t or can’t afford to upgrade. 20 million sales in 30 days……now that’s not crumbs. More Vista than Vista…..NOT

I agree with SIXX21, Vista is more than a static screen trying to look like Vista. The whole look and feel which you get from WB 5.5 doesn't come close to the real thing. But the last thing I understood is that it wasn't legal to use/download a Vista look-a-like skin...

The whole comment about being more Vista with WB 5.5 then the real Vista is a complete joke. That goes for the whole company the last year btw, I upgraded my Object Desktop last year, but I got only upgrades for two or three programs. Stop waisting your time with some .dreams program for only the happy few while still after 2 years(!!) DesktopX and IconX won't run together on all PC's.

Don't bother to respond to this, I am not reading it anyway. I canceled my last upgrade of OD because of lack of support and upgrades. Like the great SS_GOKU said, I don't feel welcome anymore, so bye, bye...

I know it makes it close enough that people at Microsoft were using it for that reason.

As for upgrading to Vista - I have on some of my machines and not on others.

Computers are tools. I don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading. People will upgrade to Vista as they come to need it for something.

As for Stonehedge - there is no perfect solution.

Well at least this comment sounds buyable
I know it makes it close enough that people at Microsoft were using it for that reason.

SIXX21 doubts that it’s true

But this one

And the fact Stardock is a Microsoft partner makes me believe Frog more than I do you

TheD2JBug declares bullshit. Both on Vista/clones and this whole moaning on Frogboy stuff.
