OK, everything looks good(except the DDR2 on a FX-51 platform) the chipset should be labeled clearly on a chip near the bottom of a board. If it's asus, i'd venture a guess at nForce or VIA, but either way, you need to notice the actual chip number, not just the chip. Also, take the Cable Select off, and actually set the drives as a master and a slave. check the cable used to connect them, it could also be faulty, and make sure your Power supply is adequate. at the very least, it should be 450 watts, but a 550 or 600 would be more appropriate with the power those drives are sure to be using. try swapping the channel that you are connected to, as well. if need be, go into your bios, and make sure that everything is properly configured. Don't change anything that may screw up your RAID array, but make sure that it is set up properly, so as not to conflict with any other HDD's.
If none of that works, we will need more information. onto which drive is XP installed? if it is installed onto the raided raptor drives, which i would assume it is, then it might be an issue with the drives themselves, but check the cabling, power supply, and jumper settings first.
Good luck!

there are two via chips on is right next to the graphics card slot that is a VT6307
the other is is slightly below it and is labeled vt8307
-power supply is 550 watt
-master/slave set
-IDE hard drive ribbon moved from secondary IDE to primary IDE
-hard drives appear stable for the moment I have yet to plug the dvd drives into the secondary IDE to see if they disappear
-will test in 30 min(food)
