Anyone using an older version of Windows?
Wednesday, March 7, 2007 by hardknocklife | Discussion: Personal Computing
I want to know how many people are using Windows 2000 or older.
I'm using 2000. Not because I'm poor and couldn't afford the upgrade, but because I replaced XP with it.
I think 2000 is better than XP, because it IS XP, just without the RAM draining extras. The installer disc I used was around 600 MB, and that had 4 versions of 2000 on it. The XP install disc is about twice that
I also won't be using Vista. I like Vista, don't get me wrong, but the fact is... it's not really new. You can easily imitate Vista on XP, no problem. All vista is, is a bundle of stuff, with a different GUI... and that's not what I look for in an OS... I want an OS that does the job and does it quickly and effectively. That's why I use 2000.
So... Anyone using an older version of Windows?

Media Server-Windows 2000 Pro
Gamer-XP Pro, soon to be Vista Business
Power Station-XP x64 Pro
Media Center-Mac OS 10.4
Storage Server-Windows 2003 Server
Backup Storage Server-DOS 6.1
Fun Box1-Red Hat
Fun Box2-Kubuntu
Fun Box3-Mac OS 8.6
Fun Box4-Mac OS 9.1
all run fine, all are fun to use, all good. Oldies on most. best current runner is x64 pro. woot for those not afraid to use older software on newer machines. the Gamer used to have 2000, but my games started not liking it.
anyone here stranded on ME?

I think you'll find that the size difference reflects the greater degree of driver/hardware compatibility built into XP, rather than simply 'bloat'.
I have one older machine with 98se [for Dos games], but the rest are on XP...
