Adobe support for Vista information
You might want to wait for CS3 if running Vista......
Saturday, March 3, 2007 by Corky_O | Discussion: WinCustomize News
After wondering about whether Adobe would offer Vista patches to the current Adobe CS2 programs with Adobe CS3 so close to release, some light has been brought to the subject. Unfortunately, the light will be in the form of the new Creative Suite 3 for many of the Adobe point programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, etc.
You can use the main link to go to the support site, where you will see a link for a '.pdf' file addressing the question of Adobe products and Vista support.
You can access the '.pdf' directly here http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/adobe_products_and_windows_vista.pdf
Note - you will need Adobe Reader to view the file which you can download and install for free from the Adobe site http://www.adobe.com
For my part, I had assumed this would be the unfortunate case for CS2 users (with the exception of Acrobat 8, which will receive a free patch scheduled for the first half of 2007.
On a positive note; the current available printed information on CS3 (and the Photoshop CS3 beta) would support some measure of excitement for serious graphic designers of both screen and print media.
Please take a look if you are interested.

I do not know about others, but on my machines Photoshop CS2 does not run in the 'Aero' theme and Illustrator has issues with some of the pallet titlebars (some are Aero and others are Basic).
Based on the posts in the Adobe forums, it appears that there are different issues being experienced by various users. This being said; the patching would probably require significant resources on Adobe's behalf to fix a majority of the issues. With the release of CS3 so close and the fact that Adobe's creative suites are considered by many to be the 'industry standard', it is not a real surprise that they have opted to focus on supporting Vista with future products and offer free patches/updates to fairly recently released products only.
Photoshop CS3 definitely has a few nice features: non-destructive filters, a workspace layout that offers some nice pallet options, and the new Camera Raw 4 which has many requested functions in the dialog when working with Raw images. From what I have read, Illustrator also has some improvements - especially in the color functions.
With Adobe not rewriting CS2 code for the Intel based Macs, it would also seem that a balance has been achieved due in part to timing in the release of Vista, Intel-based Mac popularity, and Adobe's development schedule.
For my part, I will stick with running CS2 on XP until I can afford to purchase the CS3 product. Hopefully that will also coincide with some significant improvements in the graphic adapters and drivers to unlock the real potential of Vista.
Note - I have not seen any pricing information released on CS3 yet, but have seen some suggestion of different packages being offered at different price points for the various needs of both casual and professional users.

I do think it is unfair of Adobe not to provide some patch or update for those that might want to get some use out of a newly purchased Photoshop CS2. That is shortsighted of them.

The March 2007 Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update is a package of software updates that address common application compatibility issues in Windows Vista. When you try to install and run certain legacy games or applications in Windows Vista, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
• The game, the application, or the firmware may not be installed correctly.
• The game, the application, or the firmware may cause system instability.
• The primary functions of the game, the application, or the firmware may not work correctly.
Included in this list is :
Adobe Creative Suite CS2
Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1
Adobe Photoshop Elements Version 4.0
Adobe Premiere Elements 3
Adobe Photoshop CS 8.0
There is a fairly long list of programs included in this list so worth looking at if your favorite program is not working correctly
