Hmm strange site problem

Friday, March 2, 2007 by XX | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Sometimes while browsing this site, it loads just fine, with text and picture and everything, but then it suddenly pops a message-box saying "Site cannot be found" ( or something like that ) then it goes to 404 page. Why does it do that, especially since I was already reading the site?

It happens randomly too. I still get those random "freeze browser" moments that happen only on this site and no other websites.

XP version of IE7. Probably latest version.

I noticed that the skin download/details site is much more likely to have those problems for some reason.

Try switching browser to Firefox...if you don't have it...WWW Link...it works without any hassles.

A browser cannot cause a 404 coming up. The server sends the 404 message to the browser. I think that we are just having some server issues.

I get somerhung similar in FF. It tells me that the server is or has redirected me and it freezes up. I'm using FF 2.0

My version of FF is 2.0 and I've not encountered any problems at all. Whisked around all over the site and I can't reproduce it. Even taking it to a few other sites and back several times. I even tried loading a few pages one after another to try and make it work a bit harder and still nothing.

(Mr)Uvah... Sorry but how are that supposed to solve my IE7 problem? As in NOT Firefox?

Purrball I suspect that is what happens. Maybe some ad failed to load, and server mistakenly sends 404 message to browser when ad fails to load. May not be ad but something else, though.

Lately it seems that ALL skin details and comments pages now goes to 404 if I let it load completely.

I suggest that this should be posted in the Wincustomize site issues thread. It is frequented by employees of Stardock.

I have the same wierd screen when I'm surging the site. Sometimes that my account doesn't exist    Sometimes that he can't found the forum   ..

I'm using Advanced Browser. This is the only site where I have "sometimes" problems with.

I restart my browser and re-entered my account and passwords. I delete also cookies and temporary internet files. I'm doing this for a couple of days. It works not exactly 100% but I don't see "sometimes" the message anymore..

It's probably just the JavaScript loading.
