To WC (Thank You)

Friday, February 16, 2007 by _02 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I know all of us, including myself, have never been shy about expressing our feelings or anger, in many cases about the things that are wrong on the site. The old site was riddled with problems for many months after it's "birth" and there were many threads about it. We complained about everything, and I did my share. Well, it seems very few have taken much time to say what is right about the site or any improvements that went well, so I thought I would join the few who have and take stock of a few things I see as a very good improvement. The first thing I see as good is how much easier the transition from the old site to the new site went this time. Sure there are bugs, but we can navigate and get around well most of the time, and it hasn't been anything like the last change over. Thank you. The second thing that needs mentioning is the fact that WC listened to all the complaints about the accessibility of skins according to their rating. In case many of us haven't noticed, all work here can now be seen by everyone no matter what the rating. That is such a great thing and one of the best changes here. Thank you. The 3rd thing is how much better this format and layout are, now that we are getting use to it. At first I didn't think I would like it, but now I love it. Thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to be positive!  That happens so rarely.
This place really does rock.

If you want to thank the devs directly, they are often hanging around IRC.

Amen clwoods. This has been said before but everyone always dislikes change. When it does happen we just can not talk about the positive things that came about because of the change. We will spend all our waking moments to point out the errors or mistakes as if the people who made the changes didn't care. I for one couldn't be more happy with the changes here. If anything it causes me to stop, look and THINK a little before just hitting the keys.

but no one noticed

To make clear, I was noticed by Island Dog and someone else (sorry, can't remember who you were), so shouldn't have said no one. I'm sorry I_D.

Television often has Phone polls....you know the thing..."should we get out of Iraq?"....no ring..... or yes ring.....

Invariably there's quite a one-sided response.....in this case it'd be 'yes'.

The only thing this shows, however is that the 'yes' side is simply more adamant to the point of taking the effort to call, nothing more.  There is no definitive proof from such a poll that the 'no' vote might be bigger [or not] simply through apathy....remember if we are already there a 'no' won't change anything...but a 'yes' "might".

Same goes for site works/changes.

Those who appreciate it/them....quietly nod approvingly, but those who do not spit and moan and spam the boards with "you bastards.....etc".

The ambivalent observer sees all the 'nays' and concludes it's all a total disaster.....

....but recent activity would indicate otherwise [I've noticed quite a few more forum comments, for example, between visits to 'recent'....

The Wincustomize.com site coders DO certainly deserve a round of applause, but, like backroom bods everywhere they are usually forgotten/ignored/unnoticed.

They get mine [except T-Man....he didn't take me with him to Disneyland - and I coulda' pretended to be a kid, too]...

Fairyy~

I think most of us were just trying to find our way around the first week or two. I didn't like the new site at all...but, little by little as I got used to it and found my way around again, I relised it was much more convenient and faster. As Cindi pointed out , the fact that everything gets seen now really is a nice change. At the top of each page if you only want to view 4 star items - you can. But now its a choice.
The little bugs that are still around are minor. I just try to forget about them.
