What's your temperature

I’ve been tinkering with my PC over the past 6 months or so upgrading the video card to one that has more memory (128 vs. 256), adding a WinTV card and upgrading my slow 512MB of ram to faster 2GB of ram. Yesterday I moved the "Box" out of that computer desk (we all buy one); because I noticed that there was a lot of heat being generated.
It took a moment for me to think, hit my forehead with the palm of my hand and have a "Homer Simpson" moment before I realized that I probably caused the problem with my recent upgrades.
I then went looking in Desktop Widgets for a DX Meter that would monitor temperatures knowing that someone had foreseen such a need. I didn’t find one. Did I miss it or is that something that is more difficult than it sounds?
What piece of software do you use to monitor the temps in your PC?

seldomseen thanks for the reply. Off hand do you know of any widgets or sysmetrix that are in the library that would use the MBM info? I looked but I could have missed them.

You can input info into any Sysmetrix skin via Sysmetrix config dropdown menu.

I use Systats + Avedesk + Speedfan to monitor my temps. I use a desklet called SysStyles that shows the readouts on my desktop. It wasn't until last night that I realized I was using the wrong temp meter for my CPU....d'oh.

If you right-click on a running sysmetrix on the desktop, and choose "Sysmetrix Configuration", the dialog form pops up and on the Theme you wish to display the information, click "Textual Information". A Choice-Box will be in the upper-right-hand corner, "Description". It will say "Date-Time". Open this drop-down, and scroll down the list 'til you get to MBM ...(such and such)... These are the stats that MBM can display, according to which m'board you have. Kind of confusing to set up sometimes, but it kind of walks you thru it. I've got an older Intel 850-series board and MBM doesn't seem to get much more info than CPU cycles, temp, and a couple of others
Systats has always interested me, but I've never been able to get it to work on any system I've tried. Best of luck.

Appreciate the replys. I've download MBM and set it up. My mother board came up showing three senors for temps but it doesn't identify what they are for. I suppose it does make a difference. Mime are currently at 98F, they do change but usually stay within 1 or 2 degress of each other. Lets all go out for pizza and beer and we can talk about what temp range is good or bad. There's a nice place about a couple of blocks from the house, last one there buys the first round.

Maybe the next time seldomseen, thanks again for the helpful info. I'm going to try and work with Sysmetrix. I'll post a new thread on how that works out.
