MySpace Goes After Spammer

Tuesday, January 23, 2007 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News

MySpace, the sometimes controversial social networking website has filed a lawsuit against the "Spam King".  They allege that the "Spam King", Scott Richter, violated several laws including the federal Can-Spam Act, and other state laws.  Richter allegedly gained access to accounts using phishing schemes, and sent out millions of bulletins to MySpace members.

MySpace is seeking monetary damages and an injunction to keep Richter off MySpace permanently.   This is not the first time the "Spam King" has faced lawsuits.  Microsoft and New York's attorney general filed a round of lawsuits in which Richter was eventually ordered to pay over $7 million in damages.

MySpace has stated they will take more aggressive measures against spammers to protect their community.

I think more aggressive measures should be taken to protect the community from myspace. I hate it with such a passion....but anyway, glad another spammer got what was coming to him.

Knee-capping won't help...the buggers can still send spam.

Glasgow kiss followed by stylish Italian Mafia shoeware for the imminent swimmer would be better...

I don't let spam get to me... cause thats all the spammers want. To frustrate you, and maybe make some cash on the side (or to show off ). Spam sucks, sure, but if spam REALLY bothers you that much, perhaps you shouldn't be on the internet lol.

Glad he got caught tho. The less spam, the less amount of complaints I have to hear when my friends ask me how someone might grab their password (then I have to explain phishing and stuff... ugh lol).

Good thing he got what was coming to him .
