Am I wasting my time skinning this image?
Would like to know.

I've been noticing, in a lot of the windowblinds, that this image is not skinned.
Does this image not show up on some systems?
If so, then why is it not skinned? To much trouble? Not worth it? Didn't know it existed?
It's sad, I download a really nice looking skin and this "ugly" looking default icon is not skinned.
This goes for the Music and Video icons, also.
I run WindowsXP Home and it shows up.
Again, am I wasting my time and does it show up on all systems?

Some skin it,I cheat and make them transparent...I think it makes the window look cleaner.

It's up to the skinner if they want to skin it. I've done it with and w/o.

Even though I have been skinning those icons, I agree with I.R. The windows look cleaner without them. Can we all agree as skinners to lose the ugly things? LOL

heck,I dont even do the arrows any more(transparent too )They are a pain and a waste of skinning...the little frame goes up and down whether they are there or not.It dosnt matter where you click on the header.

I have a skin for personal use that takes out ALOT of Windows redundencies and useless images. If I were to ever upload it , people would scream. Where's this? Where's that?
So much is not needed. Don't even get me started on the title bar buttons NEEDING glyphs. We all know by now which is which and you can do some pretty cool things if you don't have glyphs. They make everything skin look the same.
And then theres all the stuff I skin that I never ever ever ever see, and noone else ever sees it either.
It is sad that people skin for downloads. Skins can be much more usable for less people than more if they are skinned to be used a certain way.

The main point of this thread is to bring it to the attention of people that don't skin it.
Mainly when I "buy" a skin. (Hint-Hint-Hint).
They know who they are........
I'm at the point now, that all I have to do is look at the parts that aren't skinned and I know exactly who made it.

I didnt even know that you COULD skin that. okay how is it done?? and better yet, transparent sounds even better, majic pink I.R ?? And is it the Shellstyle.SpecialPaneIcon? I cant see how to change it, as no image comes up for it......

Yes Kitty,I think thats what its called.I think its around 32x32,but I just use magic pink on them and the arrows.The arrows graphic size influences the size of the header too I think.

Yes...UPLOAD!!!! Can you use a totally transparent png for the special arrows and the toolbar icons or does it have to be magic pink (I am having issues with magic pink at the moment LOL)

Is the translucency checkbox available?If so,yeah you probably can.
Something wierd about totally transparent .tga's...if they contain NO color info,sometimes the bork up.A fix was to not make them completely empty.Even a teeny smidge of near invisible pixels made them more stable.

it looks fine, but i dont use icons i make my icons hidden so the wallpaper shines, thats what its all about not some stupid icons, now the quick launch and start menu is where its all at!!!

This is true.
I've found an easy fix is to take the transparency down from 255% to 1%.
Still an image, but almost gone.
