OD+ Stateful Icons

Anyone else interested in possibly seeing stateful system tray icons?

Sunday, January 21, 2007 by Gollums | Discussion: ObjectDock

I was just wondering a couple of things: is anyone else interested in seeing stateful icons in the system tray, and from Stardock - is this possbile to do?

I have seen some other posts touching on this, but what I kind of miss/would like to see is a way of changing some of the icons on the system tray tab. Similar to a power indicator that I had seen a while back, it would be nice to change the ugly default icon for "On AC Power", or better yet, the other icons for the battery/power indicator. Some other ones would include those that change like the various messenger applications that change to indicate your availability status, or the volume icon (it could indicate the current level).

These are just some suggestions. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement this, or what interest there is in this. Myself, I just like to be able to customize everything!

Any thoughts?

The trick to icons like these are that they need to be able to read the app, parse the result, and update the icon.

So the app needs to be open and documented . . .

Pick one, write to the dev or companany or google, see what you come up with and come back here if you need help.

That's your best bet.  Good luck.

What about adding docklets to the system tray tab?

I did this by accident once (!) and I think the only drawback is a separator between the docklet(s) and the other system tray icons...

hmm, thanks for the responses. I guess now is a good time for me to dust off some of my programming skills and try it. I'll let you know what I can dig up, or if anyone has more programming experience and wants to try it, let's see what we can come up with.
