IE7 Hits 100 Million Install Mark

Yup, the latest version of the most ubiquitous web browser hit a major milestone on January 8th. According to the Microsoft Internet Explorer Weblog, the browser has been downloaded and installed to 100,000,000 computers across the globe. On top of this, they are estimating that over 25% of all web surfers are IE7 users now.
Here at WinCustomize, it's almost an even split between IE7 and IE6 users.

Add another 5 installs here.
If you need IE, it's best to use the latest version. Then again I use Opera and FF also, but wouldn't deride anyone for using IE7 as it's a good browser.

Well, that's a 25% larger playground for spyware - joy. I can see it coming: "Internet Explorer has detected that you are on eBay. Would you like to install WebRebates for exclusive and reliable offers instead?"

Thats funny you mentioned eBay, I have checked emails with both browsers, and IE7 is the only browser that let me know that the website was a phishing website, to were Firefox just let me cruise around the page with no warning.

Thats funny you mentioned eBay, I have checked emails with both browsers, and IE7 is the only browser that let me know that the website was a phishing website, to were Firefox just let me cruise around the page with no warning.

I mean, if you run windows, do you have a choice? I only use it for Updates. If i didn't need it for that, I wouldn't have it at all.

Mozilla Firefox 2.0 here, and I haven't looked back. Not even once.
AAMOF, I found myself terribly annoyed at having to use IE6 on my kids' computer the last time I searched for updates to their system.
That's why I use Thunderbird for email. It does a great job identifying phishing sites, something that even Outlook didn't do for me. Kudos to IE7, though, for adding free functionality that isn't included in MS' pay-for-play email app.

Thats crazy because when you install ie7 , windows has to verify that you are using a legal copy, so all of those installations are 100% unique. Nice. For me, i use firefox most of the time and ie7 maybe 2% of the time. anyways, rock on microsoft.

I work as a QA for a DSL ISP and we are getting a few calls about IE7.
"My internet isnt working" "uninstall IE7" "Hey it works now" type of thing.
for some it works for some it doesnt.
I might get a job at a pc repair shop so I will make sure to MAKE ppl use Firefox.

It's a good thing that the adoptation is going so quickly. Lookinf forward to localization to boost it. With a widespread upgrade to IE7 webdevelopers can start pushing another step forwards.

Havn't looked back since firefox. it is everything IE isn't. not downloading it unless it has skins, unlimited extentions and unrestricted customization

I use FF2 every day, but I do have IE7 installed because it does tighten the security of the whole operating system.
