Next version of XBox360

Should I buy now, or wait?

Monday, January 15, 2007 by cavalierex | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Hey there, everyone.

I'm considering buying an XBox360... Mainly, I like the concept of integration with Windows Vista Media Center, so I can use it to serve my digital media, as well as use it as a television DVR and HD-DVD player. Of course, it has the added advantage of being able to play video games (which I've been craving recently, after many years of having given them up

However, I heard rumor that Microsoft was working on the successor to the XBox360, and that it was considering release within a year.

Anyone have further information about this?

Since getting an XBox is an amenity (a "want-it" thing, not a "need-it" thing), do you guys suggest that I wait until the next version of the XBox?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I have been keeping up with those rumors as well.  This is supposedly what the "revision" includes.

"Engadget's source claims Zephyr includes a cooler 65nm processor that should reduce noise, a 120GB hard drive, which would make space for HD movies a thing of the past, and an HDMI port for full-fledged 1080p support -- a feature not currently possible via component cables."

It's also rumored that the price will increase.  If those features are an absolutely necessity, then maybe it would be wise to wait.  I know you can find some really great deals on an Xbox 360 now, and I have never regretted purchasing mine.

Thats just my opinion.

The larger hard disk is nice, since it would increase DVR capacity. Also, I'm not sure if the HD-DVD will be integrated (or still a separate module, as at present).

How much of a difference is the promised 1080p versus the present 1080i? Is it even noticeable?

Thanks!

Got Xbox 360 for Christmas. Have 9-yr-old, 11-yr-old, and me. Games for everyone and wide range of themes and levels. Backward-compatibility for Xbox games that will play on the Xbox 360 is expanded frequently, with more and more games updated to run on the newer console. Major for us, we had no DVD player other than PCs. Xbox 360 plays DVDs also, so we can rent films and play them thru the 32" Samsung HDTV. Also got the M'soft steering wheel and pedal set for driving. Wireless accessory plugs in back of Xbox 360 and connects to gateway to ISP. We considered PSP and Wii, but went with Xbox and are completely satisfied. Xbox 360 rocks!
